It's almost been two years since Donald Trump was elected as the 45th President of the United States. The whole time he has spent in office he has not only received backlash from the public, but also different news outlets causing constant turmoil in and around the White House.
Because of this constant bashing, it's easy to ignore what Donald Trump has actually accomplished during his time in office.
One of the most important things that have come from Donald Trumps Presidential term is the increase in national conversation among people with all different types of backgrounds. Voter turnout in 2016 was the second-highest in the past half-century, this is extremely important because, in the past, people would brush politics off their shoulder and if nothing the presidents did affect those people. They weren't interested in attempting to understand why different aspects in politics matter. While Donald Trump's election was disputed, more of the public began to get involved and take charge.
However, because the election was so controversial, many anti-Trump news stories and opinions have flourished and silenced the positive aspects and changes he has made or is beginning to make. Let's be honest, he does say dumb things more often than he should, but that doesn't mean he isn't doing great things behind the scenes.
He's gotten the ball rolling on immigration. Clearly, it isn't being handled the best way but he's trying out different things until he can find what works and an actual long-term solution to hot-button issues. That's more than can be said for presidents who have ignored the largest issues in our country and focused on smaller issues or have put a band-aid on the issues. He's also slowly changing the economy. The stock market is rising and he's calling for actions against large internet moguls like Mark Zuckerberg, for the way he has used user data.
The constant fight between liberals and conservatives are overshadowing the biggest issues, and because of this, it's easy to be blinded as to what is actually happening in the White House and around the country.
We do still need the help of those two parties, the second they start working together to come to conclusions instead of fighting each other and telling each other they're wrong, this country will take a turn for the best.
Now, I wouldn't say he has helped foreign affairs too much other than finally signing an agreement with North Korea. But he is only two years in, and there is plenty of time for that to happen.
