Christmas is a fun time to show your love and care to those around you. Although not everyone celebrates Christmas of course, there's always some traditions that go along depending on your culture. These are five things that you may or may not do if you're Mexican.
1. FOOD
Tamales, pozole, buñuelos. In my opinion, the best part about a Mexican Christmas is the food. We have leftovers for days. I have about a ton of tamales sitting in my fridge and some pozole, too. Gracias Abuelita.
2. CHRISTMAS EVE, NOT CHRISTMAS DAY
We do our celebrations on Christmas Eve, not Christmas Day. I know a lot of other cultures do this as well, which I think is really cool. We get lit on eve and just chill and eat the next.
3. PRESENTS AT MIDNIGHT
One point of celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve is that we open our presents on midnight. It's less waiting for us.
4. DRUNKS
If there's something you can count on, it's somebody being drunk. Personally, this was the first time I ever had anything alcoholic on Christmas, so I've never experienced that. I was at my boyfriend’s house, so there's that, which leads me to a different point I've discovered...
5. FAMILY
If you're able to actually go anywhere else other than your grandmother, tia, tio’s house, you're a lucky one. Normally, you have to be with your family, helping make tamales. This year I was lucky as I spent New Year's Eve with my boyfriend and his family.
¡Feliz Navidad!
