What Happens On Dad's Day
Gwendolyn Graham

This past weekend my sorority hosted Dad's Day, what consisted of dinner and a hockey game.

My dad, being my best friend, attended and let me just say it was one of the best experiences of my year. If I have any big news I usually tell my dad first, so the fact we were having Dad's Day was very exciting for me; especially since I no longer live at home.

My dad loves to how my college is different than my siblings (mostly in size and the crazy things people do on Abbott), because of the strange traditions of MSU and that things my dad osbereved he had many questions here is a recap:

We started the evening by having dinner at my dad's favorite Mexican restaurant in East Lansing (El Azteco).

Dinner conversations:

So are you seeing a frat boy? – We’ve gone on dates, nothing more dad. I promise.

What’s his name? – Do not worry about this dad.

Does he not realize I raised a princess? - He does not, but I'll make sure he knows.

How's physics? - Great, I'm doing great! (I'm lying, I'm sorry it's actually not going so great!)

Do all kids on campus get drunk in the middle of a Saturday? - Me, it's game day so yes.

Walking into the house:

Wow your house is big! – Yes, dad we have large amount of girls who live here and we need to be able to fit everyone into the same room for chapter.

How do you fit all of the girls into this house!? – Open concept floor plans.

Why are there so many composite? - It's a Greek thing dad, there are more in the basement.

Does everyone look the same/have the same name? – No dad, I know I just introduced you to three Emily’s but I promise we are not all brunette and named Emily.

How are they all so energetic? – Starbucks dad. Our house runs on caffeine. Large amounts of esspreso are consumed by all.

Hockey game:

Do you all know the cheers? – Yes, when we are not at the house or studying we are probably screaming at a hockey/football game because sports are fun.

Can I go to bed yet? *said at 9:30* – Yes dad, it's never too early to sleep.

So are you going out after this? – Yes, we have a social.

Are you seeing the frat boy? – No dad, he is in a different house.

Which house? - *Says Greek letters* Dad: *Confused* Okay!

Can I meet him? – Not today, pops. Trust me, you probably don't want to.

Do you want Coney Island tomorrow? – Yes, this is not even really a question. I will eat all of the pancakes dad!

**MSU had a huge victory over LSSU and my dad had a great time being a hockey fan. I love you and I'll see you guys when I come home for Thanksgiving!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
