Here's What Greek Life Has Given Me
Taylor Robinson

A lot of people assume Greek life and being in a sorority is just posting cute pics and paying for your friends. But, it really isn't. Being in a sorority means so much more than just tshirts and a cute insta pic. In my year and half in my sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma, I have gained so much in my life and my college experience and my life wouldn't be the same without my sisters and this organization.

1. A home away from home, literally.

Living in my sorority house has been the greatest experience. Not only have I found a family in the sisters I share home with and created amazing memories, but I finally feel at home living away from home.

2. Sisters that have become family.

Being away from home joining a sorority and gaining so many sisters was the greatest feeling. Your sisters become your family. They meet the boys you like. They make you feel better when you're sick or down. They become the ones there for all the big moments.

3. Leadership and a push out of my comfort zone.

When I joined my chapter I was so scared and shy. I barely talked to anyone. Now, I have been given a comfortable place to come out of my comfort zone and pursue leadership I never thought I would be able to do.

4. A chance to be a part of something bigger than me.

Being in a sorority, a huge part of it is to raise money and support certain philanthropies. There is no greater feeling than working together with your sisters or other Greek chapters to raise money for such important causes so much bigger than you.

5. Letters to be proud of.

I am so proud everyday to wear my letters. My letters are so important to me and wearing them with pride makes me so happy.

6. Constant motivation and empowerment.

Whenever I'm down or I don't feel like studying or anything at all, I have sisters who motivate me and empower me to do amazing things. I have sisters who encourage me to study hard and sisters who always uplift me.

7. A place to get involved.

Because of joining my sorority, I have become so involved in my own sorority and through supporting others in Greek life. I've grown so much from hiding in my dorm room alone, to being involved and meeting so many new people through my sorority.

8. The best college memories.

Some of my best memories from college, so far, are because of my sorority. From the excitement of bid day or getting my little, to little things like celebrating one another's birthdays or random adventures we go on. I have amazing memories because of my sisters.

9. A second family.

Getting a big and a little seems such cliché. Everybody knows a sorority girl has the best big/little, but big little is such an amazing experience. My big and my little have become my second family away from my actual family I don't get to see too often. I'm so thankful to have them.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
