What To Expect Out of 2017

As 2016 comes to a close a lot of us are thinking, Thank Goodness!! 2016 was an odd year. We elected new public officials even if you didn't like them, famous entertainment stars passed away, wildfires and other horrific tragedies. However, there was a lot of good that came out of 2016; The Cubs ended their 108 year World Series drought, Lebron James finally lead the Cavaliers to an NBA championship, more people involved in the political process, fantastic movies and television shows, and new music from Green Day, blink-182, and other famous artists. Some argue that 2016 was a bad year while some argue the opposite. No matter how you feel, what does 2017 have in store for us?

Let's start with the obvious; Donald Trump will be inaugurated as President, but Bernie Sanders will still be out there fighting for the poor and working class of this country. We will be without big name stars like David Bowie, Carrie Fisher, Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee, and Prince. We will also be without loved ones and family members if that was your case this past year. Star Wars Episode VIII, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Justice League, (Live Action) Beauty and the Beast, Power Raners, and plenty of other films will be released in 2017. Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, Papa Roach, Little Big Town and other artists are prepared to drop albums in 2017.

The unknown; Literally everything else. School, family, friends, faith, employment, business opportunities, political revolutions etc. 2016 was so unpredictable that it makes 2017 so exciting! Others may not have the same optimism, but it is what you make it. If you don't like something then change it. If you want things to change YOU have to make it happen. Now, I'm not saying to start a political revolution that is you and only you, but you at least need to take a stand. Get involved in your local community to create the change you want to see in the world. If there are personal goals you want to reach, figure out a way to reach them.

My biggest recommendation is to find a coach. Find someone with the lifestyle you want to live and pursue them. As one of my coaches says, he wants people, "Foaming at the mouth for mentorship." You have to be HUNGRY for whatever it is YOU want. Whatever you may be chasing don't stop and don't let anyone or anything knock you off course. Get your mindset right and stay focused on what YOU want and how it can benefit others. Bill Britt once said, "Success is determined by how many people are better off because you lived." Make 2017 a better year for you, your co-workers, your family, friends, loved ones, and strangers. Let's all stop yelling at each other and just stop, take a breath, and let's have conversations peacefully. Let's learn to be kind to others and want to serve others every day of our lives.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
