Think of any cheesy television show geared towards teenagers, and you can probably guess the plot of "Riverdale." There was a high schooler who was murdered, and the series follows the town's members finding out who did it. Riverdale, however, has more interesting twists and turns than your typical teen drama. This series follows the original Riverdale by Archie Comics.
There's your rich mean girl named Cheryl Blossom, played by Madelaine Petsch, who is beyond beautiful. She's the kind of mean girl who makes you wish you had her witty tongue and be able to master that sickeningly sweet smirk. The show gives her a thorough background most tv shows skip over. Everything she does is red, such a power move. Her brother, Jason Blossom, is the one who was killed in the first season.
The nice girl Betty Cooper, who is played by Lili Reinhart. She has her own family issues and her own mental sanity risks, so she isn't the cliche girl next door. Her older sister Polly is pregnant with Jason Blossom's baby, but this isn't found out until about halfway throughout the season.
Archie Andrews is the dream guy of the series, the sweet football playing/musically inclined boy who you'd love to be with. He always puts his friends first, putting himself in physical danger more than once in this show in order to help a friend. He is played by KJ Apa.
Cole Sprouse sports a dark head of hair in this television show, with a beanie and greasy kind of dress. He's the troubled boy in the show, coming from the wrong side of the tracks (which they will remind you of the entire season). He plays Jughead, yes, his name is Jughead.
Veronica Lodge is the rich girl who is everybody's friend, loves to party, but has some serious daddy issues. Camila Mendes nails this character right on the head. Her pearls, perfect hair, stylish outfits, and friendly smile is the kind of girl you would pass by in the hallway with a smile and always get a welcoming 'hello'.
The show itself has a lot of depth that you have to get into it to experience, but it is a really good show and I'm so happy to see that it was renewed. The CW is trying to get more teen-centered shows now that Gossip Girl is done after so many years, and you can clearly see that with this attempted television show. But, it's a really good show and I binge-watched it all in two nights on The CW app, so you totally should too.
