What Do You Want?
ToddStocker.com

Have you ever wondered what people want the most? Is it fame, attention, power, control, or admiration? Over the past few months, I have been not only asking myself that, but asking it toward other people as well. What does a friend expect out of a friendship? What do significant others require? What do most people expect out of life. While these questions can range from person to person, I’ve found that often times we do not really know what we want. Sometimes it seems like we know what we want, however, when we get and or achieve it, we do not feel satisfied. For quite some times now I have been depressed. I questioned why am I depressed, and what can I do to fix it? Well, unfortunately, I have not found a complete answer yet. I know little bits here and there but no definite answer. When I was very young, I did not have many friends due to many circumstances I won’t bother to bore you with. I realized that I, as a human being, require some sort of communication with other. When I do not receive this social life I need, I become depressed. Now here is the tricky part now. Since I never had a lot to learn off of when I was little, I do not have great communication skills. I am quite shy. I have also realized that I need to communicate with others to not feel as depressed. However, if any of you have depression, then like me, you understand that you have no desire to reach out and talk to people. This is an issue in itself. So to bring it back on subject, what is it that I want? Maybe if I can figure out what it is that I want, then I can gain a hint to what others want as well. Personally, I think I want to be important. I no longer want to be left in the dust by so many. I want quality time, instead of wasted time. After learning that this is only one thing I want, I realized that our wants and needs as human beings will never stop changing or growing. I think that everyone needs to take a step back and acknowledge their wants and needs. We need to break through walls that we put up within ourselves to truly find happiness. Some might say, “Well, I thought we were talking about wants and needs here. Not happiness.”. However, is it not true that when we get what we want or need, we become happier? From my personal experience, with my wants and needs, I found that I am much happier when I achieve those two things. So to leave this off on a good note, here’s some food for thought that can truly make a difference. If we found out what we all wanted, would we be happier than if we chose to ignore it?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
