What Do You Think Love Really Is?

We've all had that one person; the person that you admired, loved, and cared for. A person you could rely on and find clarity with. A person that would listen to your daily complaints, find ways to make you happy when you were down, that would surprise you with random gifts that would make your heart flutter. For most of us, we've experienced multiple persons of such discrete characteristics. We fell in love with each of them, but not only just their looks. When you fall in love with someone you love everything about them, even the things you dislike. When our love ends, does it immediately end? So that raises the question, "why do we fall in love?"

The definition of love is "an intense feeling of deep affection." Humans associate this word on a more complex level. We feel the love on a cellular level. But there's a phrase that contradicts this; "Nothing lasts forever." So why do we even attempt to fall in love? We don't purposely do it; love comes naturally. Scientifically, love is basically an allusion for reproductive reasons, but society has portrayed it as something more. Society has alluded love into sacrifices, rituals, and other ways so love is basically wired into our brains. It is a part of life itself. People live, love and die.

Love can be more imperative. People decide who they choose to love, while some just wait for it to just simply show up. For many people, love is something to look forward to. A simple kiss or an comfortable hug can be quite therapeutic. Love can also be defined as achieving higher levels of expectations, which people strive for.

Love can be euphoric, but it can also be catastrophic. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable with another person that loves you equally can end within the blink of an eye. Ultimately, the only person you have is yourself. Once your feelings for your significant other subsidies, you don't necessarily feel hate, which is the opposite of love, respectively. "The opposite of love is not to hate, it's indifference. If you hate someone, you still care." Although one's love might end, it isn't automatically transformed into hate. You just simply care for the person differently. In translation, just because you don't love someone doesn't mean you hate them.

Love isn't a bad thing, it's actually a great thing. Being able to find someone that you connect with and share your love with is a feeling that many can't explain.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
