What College Students Are Truly Thankful For

"Eat, drink, and be thankful."

What College Students Are Truly Thankful For

Thanksgiving is almost here and of course there's a ton of things to be thankful for, but for a college student, it's the little things that make a huge difference during Thanksgiving week and the week leading up to it.

1. Cancelled Classes

In the couple days leading up to Thanksgiving, students are just cringing at the idea of classes because all they're thinking about are mashed potatoes, apple cider and a week of no lecture halls. When we get that email from a professor that class is cancelled, we can happily write that at the top of the list of what we're thankful for.

2. A Home-Cooked Meal

After months of dining hall food and greasy takeout, sitting at the dining room table for a fresh home-cooked meal makes a college student feel like royalty. That first bite changes your mood for the rest of the night.

3. Homework Extensions

I don't even need to explain this one. Who wants to do work over Thanksgiving when you could be shopping and stuffing your face? We all know you've been tempted to feed your homework to your pet once you got home as an excuse anyway.

4. Black Friday Deals

As we all know, college students are completely broke. If you're not broke in college, personally, I don't trust you. But even though we have no money, we still have to buy all of the holiday gifts for friends and family, so a good deal can go a long way.

5. Leftovers

Every college student is going to roll into Thanksgiving, Tupperware in hand, ready to pack all of the leftovers as tightly as they can so they can survive a bit longer at school with some actual good food.

6. A Good Night's Sleep in Your Own Bed

Let's face it, as comfortable as we may have made our beds at school, there's nothing like waking up in your own room at home and realizing that when you get up, you have no responsibilities. Add on your own couch and shower too, and you're feeling golden.

7. Family and Friends

We all miss our families and friends at school more than we even realize. Some of us may fight it, but once you give in, that first hug it everything. Getting those hugs and smiles from your friends and family is unlike any feeling that we get at school, and we realize how much it really means to us.

I hope everyone has a week filled with cancelled class, leftovers, good shopping deals, friends, and family. Just remember that there is so much to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
