I have grown up with dogs my entire life. I am a dog person. I believe that they are the most loyal companions ever. They have the biggest hearts and are amazingly protective and loving. Seeing dogs being mistreated, not loved and/or sitting in an animal shelter waiting for someone to bring them to their “furever” home breaks my heart. If I could save every single dog sitting in a shelter or being mistreated elsewhere right now, I would.
The following list is what we can do with dogs in shelters.
1. Train them as police dogs. Common police dogs are labradors, German shepherds and now pit bulls.
2. Train them to accompany children to the stand when they have to testify in court.
3. Train them as military dogs.
4. Train them to assist people with various disabilities (blindness, deafness, physical disabilities, seizures, diabetes, etc).
5. Train them to be emotional support animals.
6. Train them as therapy dogs to visit college campuses during midterms and finals.
7. Train them as therapy dogs to visit children in hospitals.
