Today, we are going to focus on studying the latter: wet cat food
What is the difference between dry and wet cat food?
In general, we could say that when we refer to dry food we refer to feed, while wet food is that which comes in cans.
When we buy dry food or think for our cat we know that it will last a long time, since the bags or sacks can be kept better and do not expire or become soft (if they are well preserved) soon. In addition, they have many nutrients and because they are crispy, your cat's teeth do not get so dirty when they are bitten.
However, they do not have the necessary amount of water that does contain wet cat food and that covers their hydration needs
What benefits does wet cat food provide?
- The main advantage of wet cat food is what we have already mentioned: water. Because it contains more than feed (60-80% of water versus 5-10% of dry food), your cat will not need to drink as often. If we take into account that already cats do not usually drink much water, wet food could avoid some health problems.
- Another of its advantages is the great variety of wet food that you find in the market. Our cats have a very exquisite palate and you could surprise him with many flavors!
- As you can buy them in small cans or envelopes, you can try until you find the one that your cat likes best, without thinking that you will spoil a lot of food if you fail with any flavor.
- Wet cat food contains all the nutrients your hairy needs: vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins, etc., so it will be well fed. Of course, we recommend that when selecting wet food, look at its components and avoid those that have derivatives of meat, cereals and sugars.
In addition, there are specialized for different ages and physical characteristics, so you can select the one that best suits your cat.
On the other hand, you will find wet food for cats of different textures, with which, you can also try or choose one that suits your needs. For example, if you have oral problems, a mild texture may suit you.
So, do I give it wet food or dry food?
Although I think it is the most common, it is recommended a combination of both meals, as long as a professional does not indicate that you should choose only one or the other food for health needs.
On the other hand, in case of combining them, you have to take into account the quantities to offer according to the age, size and weight of your cat. The feeding must be adequate and balanced according to the vital stage of your cat. And finally, always, ALWAYS, offer your pet quality food, either feed or cans. Your health deserves it!
