Confessions From An East Coaster: Why The West Coast Is The Best Coast

Bye bye, East Coast!

Confessions From An East Coaster: Why The West Coast Is The Best Coast

Green trees and fresh air are the two things I need in life and in the place I live in. You know, many people are starting to move out to the West Coast, specifically Washington State. I don't know about you, but the West Coast is the best coast in my opinion. We all come from different places, but the majority of us can all agree that the West Coast and Washington are the best places to live out of all the states in the USA.

I grew up along the East Coast, and it was alright I guess. The seafood and abundance in Chinese food restaurants are probably the only good things about it, and yes, the people I met are another thing that I miss dearly. I miss having a Chinese takeaway on speed dial and having a sandy beach 20 minutes away from my house. However, those are probably the only things I miss about the East Coast.

When I moved here two years ago, I thought I would hate it because of the rain and cloudiness, but I was wrong. I grew to love the rain and how the air smells when it is cloudy; it is just so fresh and crisp. There is no humidity that makes it feel like you are drenched in sweat the moment you set foot outside your door.

Plus, there is barely any traffic where I live (but if you live in Seattle, there is the normal city traffic for you if you miss it). The environment here is a major step up. I love seeing trees everywhere I go. There are also tons of parks and little nature spots to explore! I have gone to so many spots with my friends and I still go back to some of them. The Chuckanuts in Bellingham are the best because you get to frolic on trails and explore the beaches.

The one majorfactor I noticed when I moved here was that everyone is nice to everyone. When shopping, strangers all smile at you, which is definitely something that does not really happen on the East Coast. People are too busy with getting from Point A to Point B and not caring about the people they are affecting around them. People are also just down right rude on the East Coast, and I am glad I have left that all behind me. But in Washington, people really go with the flow and care about the people around them.

So there. An East Coaster who is now a PNW resident, who will never want to leave this beautiful state ever. I will live here for all my days after college somewhere in this state; who knows where the path will take me next. I am sure those who are not from Washington can relate to me, especially when many of you are moving away because you have finally graduated college (so congrats!).

But seriously, who would ever want to leave the West Coast?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
