Of all the filmmakers working today, none have a better grasp on their filmmaking craft than the one and only Wes Anderson. Anderson’s films transport viewers to exquisite visual worlds full of overly symmetrical camera shots, elaborate schemes and long, detailed lists, all while providing emotionally complex characters to populate his films as they wrestle with deeply emotional and thematic ideas. Anderson’s new film, “Isle of Dogs,” will be released on March 23 and it will be the writer/director’s second venture into the world of stop motion animation following the brilliant “Fantastic Mr. Fox.” Anderson’s films are hard to rank because he has never made a bad movie, but here is the best I could do, from worst to best. Best, in this case meaning absolutely brilliant, and worst in this case meaning not quite brilliant but still pretty amazing.

8. "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou"

Although Bill Murray has appeared in several of Anderson’s films, this is the only one where he had the leading role, and it just didn’t quite work. Murray plays Steve Zissou, a renowned oceanographer who has sworn revenge on the shark that ate his friend. Anderson’e signature quirky characters and unique visuals are present here, but not as effective as in his other films.

7. "Bottle Rocket"

This was Wes’s first film, and as a result it feels like his style had not fully developed yet. This crime caper stars Owen and Luke Wilson and feels closer to reality than the director’s later work. Still, this one provides plenty of humor and quirkiness that becomes even more apparent throughout Anderson’s career.

6. "The Darjeeling Limited"

There is nothing wrong with this movie, there is just even less wrong with Anderson’s other films, so this one still gets placed somewhat low on the list. This one stars Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody as three brothers trying to reconnect on a spiritual trip through India. It is funny, emotional and visually stunning, making it prime Anderson fare.

5. "Rushmore"

This seems to be the film that gave audiences their first real glimpse at Anderson’s unique style. It also features a brilliant montage sequence detailing the many extracurricular activities of its protagonist, played by a wonderful Jason Schwartzman.

4. "Fantastic Mr. Fox"

This film proved that not only could Anderson succeed with live-action filmmaking, but that he has a talent for animation as well. The film, based on the Roald Dahl book, is easily one of the best animated films to come out in years, and proved there is really nothing Wes Anderson can’t do.

3. "The Grand Budapest Hotel"

Now the ranking gets even more difficult, because the rest of these films are pure masterpieces. This one is still Anderson’s most recent film, and he assembled a large ensemble cast for it led by Ralph Fiennes to create a hilarious, deeply emotional tale about remembering the past and never letting go. It is nothing short of brilliant.

2. "Moonrise Kingdom"

This film sees Anderson also resemble a large ensemble cast, but it is centered on two children who run away from a small seaside town, a town very quirky and very Andersonian. The film captures the youth and innocence of childhood better than most films ever could and represents one of cinema’s most compelling tales about coming of age, a work of true genius.

1. "The Royal Tenenbaums"

Although every Wes Anderson film belongs on several ‘best of’ lists, his greatest cinematic achievement is no contest in my opinion. His greatest work of true genius can be found in this film starring Gene Hackman as a father trying to reconnect with his three intellectually gifted children, played by Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson and Gwyneth Paltrow. It is heartbreaking, hysterical and honest, with pure unfiltered Wes Anderson talent shining through every scene.

Anderson is one of the most ambitious and talented directors working today, which is why his films are so incredibly difficult to rank. Everything he touches seems to turn to gold, so “Isle of Dogs” will probably be brilliant as well, although it remains to be seen how it will stack up against the rest of Anderson’s astoundingly impressive body of work.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
