Have you ever had a day where you just don't want to do anything? I'm not talking about feeling lazy; I'm talking about not having any motivation whatsoever to do anything. Days where you feel so overwhelmed with life you just want to hit the pause button. Days where you feel down for the count. I am all too familiar with these days. Which is why I've complied a list of all the advice I've given and even received for when you feel like you're stuck in a dark hole.

1. Take a hot shower.

This simple act alone will lift you out of a funk. Stopping for a minute and taking a moment to focus on yourself can clear your mind of any negative thoughts. When your body feels clean, so does your mind and you will find yourself ready to take a small step forward.

2. Drink tea.

This piece of advice has never failed me. Certain types of teas contain herbs that relax your body and mind and can even banish negative vibes. Again, this is just a small way of taking some time for yourself and can go a long way in making you feel better.

3. Connect with an old friend.

Call or message someone you haven't spoken to in a while. More often than not, you will find yourself remembering all the good times you've had together. Memories are powerful tools and can affect our everyday lives. Focusing on some good memories will make you feel so much better.

4. Clean.

I can already hear you complaining about this one, but cleaning can be extremely therapeutic. When you clean, you set small goals for yourself that are easily attainable. Accomplishing these goals will boost your morale and the clean environment will give you the feeling of a fresh start.

5. Go for a run or walk

Moving your body will flood your system with endorphins and dopamine. These are "happy chemicals". You will instantly feel better about whatever is bothering you.

6. Take it all in.

Whatever it is that you're doing, stop. Stop for a minute and just observe the life around you. Notice the little things and appreciate the beauty around you.

7. Cook something special with a friend.

It's cheat day. Find a recipe that your mom used to make, try something new, or put a new spin on your favorite dish. Making new food is a fun and rewarding experience, and even if it goes completely wrong, you will have fun doing it.

8. Quit complaining.

I know that sounds harsh, but if you allow yourself to complain, you're only reinforcing those negative feelings. Make a decision to think positively and I guarantee you won't regret it.

9. Make a list of goals.

Write down five things you want to accomplish by the end of the week. It can be anything from buying cat food to jogging for twenty minutes. Once you start to check those goals off, you'll be ready to move on to bigger, more rewarding goals.

10. Religious?

If you identify with a certain religion or culture, take the day to return to your roots. Returning to your basic beliefs will do wonders for your soul.

These are just some simple ways of getting back on your feet when all you want to do is lay in bed. I know these things have helped me out of dark times and I hope they can do the same for other people as well.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
