Welcome To Welcome Week

Welcome to college, my friends. You may be reading this as an incoming freshman, returning student, or 43 year old adult reliving their past glory days. Regardless, it is that great time of year again when we get to enjoy a little bit of fun without the headaches of school work or commitments. Everyone has a preconceived notion of what Welcome Week is, but I’m here to share the tale of a day of Welcome Week as told by gifs.

You arrive on campus filled with pure excitement

Then you remember you have to move all of your belongings up 4 flights of stairs...

So, with the help of your parents you unload the mini van.

3 Minutes in and you are sweating more than you’ve ever imagined possible

When you’re all done, your family takes you out for one last real person meal before dining hall swipes and cheap backdoor pizza consume your life

You say goodbye and, of course, your parents cry and prolong it for as long as possible

Then you realize that your parents stayed way longer than planned, and you have to start getting ready ASAP

You finally hit the streets and are feelin' fine

You arrive, walk in, and instantly your shoes are sticky

You go downstairs for some refreshments like ~water~

And suddenly you feel like you’ve entered the sahara desert

But, it's Welcome Week and yolo

So you jump to the nearest elevated service and start dancing to Justin Bieber’s new hit

But after hours and hours of boppin' around the basement you decide its time to go

And that’s when it hits you… YOU'RE STARVING

“Hello, Pizza House? Yes, one jumbo feta bread to Bursley please.”

You scarf it down in record time

and sleep has never sounded better

You wake up and it's 11 am the following day

You have a pounding headache and start regretting the pizza house from before

You wake up your roommate to rehash the details of the previous nights events

And you both decide you’re not going out again tonight

But we both know that you will

Because come on, it's Welcome Week.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
