Welcome to the Primordial Partition of America
johnhain

I am disgusted. I am absolutely appalled by the state of affairs in the United States, which now I motion to rename to the "Primordial Partition of America." Who is with me? With all of the recent news articles regarding the exercise of civil rights in conjunction with protests on gun reform, I cannot stand the level of absolute madness this country is exhibiting. I should not be the only one worried about how deep we are in the bog of shit that is politics now a days.

First thing's first. I am an independent bipartisan. Any opinions I have are mostly utilitarian, compromising ideas for the benefit of the majority. I don't care about Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal, but the current political climate is transforming my political identity to a murky mess of fog and blur, as others that I believed in the same boat as me are being divided by the Cheeto in the White House. The denizens of the U.S. are breaking-down to their primal roots, and I feel that I cannot stand idly-by and allow it to happen. Multiple times I have considered just looking into running for public office. Multiple times I had to watch what I had to say as to seem "professional" for potential work opportunities, but no longer. This article has been a long time coming, and it feels good to open my mouth.

Debating, speaking one's mind, or just articulating any sort of rational idea in political thought is a mature and intelligent act. Arguing, speaking down, and plain negative thought is immature, and I feel that, due to us as a citizen not having the ability to act like adults when speaking about political thought, is the reason why political articulation and activism is considered unprofessional and immature. I cannot stand it. I've seen adults on both sides say the most wretched things.

There were teenagers that staged a "lie-in" outside the White House to protest for stronger gun control regulations. Teenagers all-across the United States also had "walk-outs" and parading protests for stricter laws. It should not take a genius to realize that teenagers, mainly high schoolers, can and are smarter than what people think. Those movements showed that there are roots of activism existing in the younger generations, which is good for the reconstruction of correct and mature political discussion for the future.

BUT...

All-over the internet, far-right conservatives and/or trolls have been declaring all of the activism as staged and forced by the left-wing Liberals. I stand in the middle here, and yes, I am human and I do have certain biases, but for adults to disregard aspirations and activity of their children and grandchildren is hypocritical, disgusting, and horribly appalling.

Well guess what? Back in the 60-80s, we had the Civil Rights Movement. There were members of both sides of the aisle supporting the movement, and it being homegrown with the talks of Martin Luther King and Malcom X. We had the protests for the Vietnam Conflict, which I bet that the same members of your families who have been discrediting these students were a part of! I have three relatives in my family that have discredited these individuals, yet they were a part of the "Love not War" and the rest of the "Flower Child" movement (the lighter side, not the darker side). How can you drop so low from where you were.

All of these things that have been said about these students, discrediting their advancements, their political activism, and disregarding their ideas and attempts to shout their voice, are just... horrible! It screams insecurity about what we used to consider "mature adults".

You know what?

"The fool thinks himself an intelligent man, while the intelligent man thinks himself a fool."
-Anonymous

You like that quote? Well guess what? I wrote that. I live as best to that as I can. I am not perfect, but that's something everyone should live by. It basically says that the intelligent man, in this case, is humble about his intelligence, while the fool thinks themselves intelligent, which shows that they are chauvinistic. This is what I see a lack of in this current spectrum. This is what we should live by. The older generations claim that the younger ones are the root of all the problems in America, that Millennials are ruining the economy, Generation Z are stuck in social and mental limbo, etc, but it isn't us. We are the ones that will be fixing this nation. We have been told this since our birth, and we will strive for this until the day we die. Somewhere along the way, our parents and grandparents either took offense, felt attacked, or believe we will overthrow them. Let them be like that. The Baby Boomers ruined the economy with their trickle-down economics. Generation Y was given cheaper university tuition and better pay (granted, inflation is a major issue now). Both the Boomers and Y are the reason why the environment is almost fully screwed.

People's arguments include speaking of how you need experience and proper education to speak about these issues, or to be able to become successful in the future. How do you get experience and/or learn? By doing! Many adults believe that as students not in university, they are not experienced or educated in many of the important talking points in business, politics, science, and religion. I laugh every time I hear this. Why? Because there is a freshman in my Entrepreneurship Club who helped found and sold a major investment banking company. He was worth a few hundred thousand dollars before he even graduated high school. I laugh when people speak about it because there is a young woman named Malala Yousafzai who is a female rights activist and one of the youngest Nobel Prize laureates. Why can't the older generations believe in the competency of us?

From what I have seen since the beginning of the election process back in 2015 is that almost all Boomers are trying to either cling to "what worked" for them in a world where there was so much post World War II discourse and a massive boom to the economy, or are attempting to go out with a bang to make sure we do not enjoy our lives as much as they had. That is what I cannot stand.

This article is not a rant on gun control. This article is a compilation of the current discourse in the Primordial Partition of America. The current institution is disgusting.

All I have to say is this is not America anymore.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
