Welcome To Endicott!
Samantha Garrity

Hello to you new freshmen and transfers! Welcome to Endicott! Obviously you like the school or else you would not have chosen to come here. Endicott truly is a one-of-a-kind college, heck, we have three private beaches! But, it offers some truly amazing opportunities for every single student.

Here are some tips and hints that I have learned over the course of my undergraduate career at Endicott.

  • Never walk on the blue paint sidewalks after it has rained or is even dewy out unless you have a death wish. The blue paint makes it so you are basically walking on a slip-n-slide: and you will fall.
  • VPAC = The Walter J. Manninen Center for the Arts (VPAC stands for Visual Performing Arts Center)
  • The Rose Performance Hall, The Blackbox, and Tia’s Theatre are in the VPAC
  • The AC is the Academic Center, but its official name is the Samuel C. Wax Academic Center.
  • On your schedule, the abbreviation for the Post Center is not PC, it’s PE. If you happen to have a class in PE110, it is on the right-hand side down a small hallway between the gymnasium and the gym. The actual classroom is the last room down the corridor and next to where the aerobics room is.
  • If you have a class at the Misselwood Carriage House, it will appear on your schedule as MSWD-CRHS. It is the only building on the left-hand side of Misselwood. It looks like a three-car garage, it is not, and it is a classroom.
  • You may have a class in the Chapel.
  • LoCal is the lower level of the Callahan where Student Affairs, Residence Life, the Mailroom, Copy & Printing, the Health Center, and the Counseling Department is all housed.
  • The Ginger ‘51 Judge Science Center is in the LSB, it is on the right-hand side as you walk in from the entrance at the ponds. The Curtis L. Gerrish School of Business is on the left-hand side.
  • The AC has a weird classroom numbering system, the higher 100 numbers are on the side with the entrance that has the little tables and the vending machines. The lower 100 numbers are on the side with the hallway that has the couches and chairs. You'll figure it out eventually.
  • You may have a class in the lower level of the AC; it is literally in the basement.
  • From Hamilton, Wenham, Frates Hall, Endicott Hall, and Brindle Hall, it is easiest and quickest to walk behind Endicott Hall, past the VPAC, and then up the stairs that lead you between Woodside to get to the library, AC, and LSB.
  • Visit the Writing Center! There are many great, knowledgeable, and caring tutors who would love to help you with any writing assignment that is at any stage in the writing process! (Shameless plug because I work there.)
  • Go to the Tutoring Center if you need help, they are there for a reason!
  • The Writing Center, the Tutoring Center, Disability Services, and Student Support Services are all located on the second floor of the library.
  • Do not walk up or down Hale Hill on the pavement if it is icy – walk on the side where the grass usually is. Hale Hill will claim you as its victim at some point if you test your luck.
  • The reference librarians, Betty, Audrey, and Bridget are so incredibly helpful with finding articles and information needed for a class.
  • There are multiple printing stations in the library.
  • There are many comfy couches and good places to study in the Cybercafé, which is located in the basement of the library.
  • Do not ever swim in the ponds. Ever. Never ever. Don’t even do it on a dare. No.
  • If you live in the areas of Frates, Brindle, or Endicott Hall, give yourself 10 minutes to get to class if you are going to the LSB, AC, Post, or Library.
  • If you live in Hamilton or Wenham Halls, give yourself 15 minutes to get to class if you are going to the LSB, AC, Post, or Library. If you have a class at the Nursing Center, no matter where you live, give yourself 20+ minutes, especially in the winter to get there.
  • Thursday is Stir Fry day in the AC Cafe. The line is long, but so worth the wait.
  • Course number and sections - ENG111 is the course number, ENG111-01 is the section of the course. Each major and or concentration has their own code.
  • While COAST may look old and antiquated, it has a lot of helpful information available to you if you just poke around.
  • If you cannot remember your professor’s email, it’s just their first initial and the first seven letters of their last name @endicott.edu. For example, Professor Samuel Alexander’s email is salexand@endicott.edu

You are all going to do great! Remember, don’t be afraid to ask question of your Professors, advisor, RA's, or of any upperclassmen, faculty, or staff. We are here to help you get the most out of your education, but to also help you discover yourself and your passions in life.

See you soon, baby Gulls!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
