Welcome to DU Odyssey
University of Denver

Hi!

My name is Emily and I'm the editor-in-chief for our Odyssey team here at DU. I'm a senior marketing major with a minor in management. Outside of school, I'm a competitive figure skater, work in the varsity athletics department, and work on our events board DUPB. I am not a writer by trade but I believe in what Odyssey stands for and in the necessity of finding your voice, especially in college when we can get lost so easily.

Articles shouldn't take too long to write: 45 minutes to an hour. My advice is that if an article is taking you over two hours to write including doing various research, wait to finish it and write something else. You can write as many articles per week as you want and schedule them for specific times or just submit them as you want. Write about anything you think the student culture at DU and in general will respond to. Feel free to check out Thought Catalog, Elite Daily, Facebook, Buzzfeed, and old Odyssey articles for inspiration.

I’ve also included a couple of links at the bottom below my signature for you to take a look at. They’re articles the team has written in the past that have received good feedback from readers, leadership, and have a lot of shares. Typically content creators will respond to current events like Black Lives Matter, the election, LGBT rights, feminism, etc. But if you think of something outside the box that a specific group might relate to and you feel strongly about, please feel free to create something for that!

Articles will be due every Friday at midnight. We need 12 articles per week at minimum, and preferably get consistent 100% participation in writing/ submitting. If you go two weeks without submitting an article, you'll get a strike against you and I'll email you asking to set up a meeting to talk about it.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! I'm attached to my phone so I'll respond quickly unless I'm sleeping or at practice.

Em

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
