The Week Before Winter Break As Told By "Friends"

"We were on a break!"

The Week Before Winter Break As Told By "Friends"

The time has finally come: Winter break is almost upon us, and after the painstaking, sleepless semester that we've all just had, there's somehow a light at the end of the tunnel (a light which mostly involves Netflix, real food, and no pants or responsibilities. Count me in.) The only thing that stands between you and a little taste of sanity is one week of absolute and total torture. So buckle up and try to enjoy the ride, without crashing that is:

You go into this week thinking that maybe, just maybe, it won't be as bad as you think!

You soon find out you were totally wrong. It's even worse than you think.

You're seriously starting to wonder why you didn't get more work done during Thanksgiving

Because not only do all of your classes have finals, but they also have final papers...

As if your professors don't understand that you do, in fact, have responsibilities other than their class.

So, you buckle down, make a plan, and aim to work super efficiently

But then you immediately get stressed, watch an entire season of a show on Netflix, and get totally off schedule.

Your parents ask you how studying is going and you just pretend you've got it under control

Because if you told them how much time you spent procrastinating they would actually kill you.

So instead of dealing with your problems, you just eat more than any human being ever should

And you cry because all you want is to be home with your pets.

Plus, you're super sick of walking around campus in this awful weather.

But then, you realize you'll really miss your college friends while you're back in your home town.

So, you somehow manage to get everything done at the last second so that you guys can hang out one more time

And you feel like you just conquered the entire world in one week.

Oh but wait, don't forget to do that last minute packing!

Forget your laundry though, just do that when you get home (duh.)

Now run home as fast as you can, drink some wine, grab a home cooked meal, and climb into bed.

You survived. This calls for a serious celebration.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
