Time seemed to stand still. Lisa felt her heart skip as the second hand on the clock ticked down. Tick, tick, tick. Lisa met her friends eyes slowly.

"Sarah, I don't think..."

"Lisa, cut the crap. Was Thomas a mistake or not?"

"I don't decide that. You do."

Sarah choked out a sob.

" What do I do now? What am I supposed to do?" Sarah wailed.

Lisa pulled Sarah to her gently and held her.

"Shh, it'll be alright. You'll see. We'll figure this out, okay? Everything will be okay."

Eventually, Sarah calmed down.

"I'm tired, Lisa. I'm just so drained after all of this."

"Why don't you go get some rest in the guest bedroom?" Lisa said gently.

"I need to go pick up some things from the house. I didn't bring anything with me." Sarah sighed.

"I'll take care of that. Just make a list of what you need me to go grab and i'll get it, okay? Then you go and take a nap or lie down for a while. You've had a rough day."

Sarah nodded and made her way to the guest room.

"Lisa?"

"Yeah Sarah?"

"It is good to be back. Even if today sucked."

"Just like old times, right?"

"Almost."

-Ten Years Ago-

"Hey Jackie-boy! Hand me that box of pizza and don't steal all of the slices out of it first this time."

"Oh Teddy, you're growing up so quick!" Jackie teased.

"Ah, cut it out Jackie, you're going to make him sad." Sarah joked.

"Alright guys, cut it out for real. We don't want Teddy to call his mommy on us again."

"Lisa!"

Lisa laughed at Teddy through a mouthful of pizza.

"You guys are the worst." Ted smirked.

"Yes, but you love us anyways."

"Besides, we can't be your best friends and not tease you from time to time. That would be like, best friend fraud." Sarah said gesturing around the room with her pizza slice.

"Hey, dork, put your pizza on a plate before you ruin the carpet."

Lisa threw a paper plate at her which Sarah caught deftly.

"See, Lisa calls me a dork because we're best friends. I know she says it lovingly."

"I think she says it to keep her carpet safe. Remember what you did to it last weekend? Lisa was scrubbing it for hours getting the stain out." Jackie said.

"I was not scrubbing for hours!" Lisa exclaimed.

"Case and point."

Lisa punched Jackie on the shoulder.

"Ow. That actually hurt a bit."

"Well good. Jerk." Lisa said with a small smile.

"I'll get you back for that someday."

"Sure you will Jackie-boy, sure you will."

"You'll see."

-In the Present-

Lisa waited until she heard a faint snore coming from Sarah's room and then picked up her phone. She dialed a familiar number and waited as the phone rang.

"Jackie? Hey, yeah it has been a while...I know it seems like just yesterday...Jackie, look, there's something I need to talk to you about."

Lisa shook her head at Jack as he continued talking on the other line.

"Jackie, no. It's about Sarah. She's staying with me right now. Can you meet for coffee? Tomorrow at noon? Does Angelo's Bistro work?"

Jack continued talking worriedly on the other side of the line.

"Alright. Tomorrow then."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
