Another terrorist attack has taken place throughout the weekend. This time, it was a carried out by a suicide bomber who killed himself and 51 others during an outdoor wedding in the Turkish city of Gaziantep.
Reports from Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan indicate there were at least another 94 wounded in the attack. President Erdogan has also blamed ISIS for this senseless attack and has confirmed that the suicide bomber was between the ages of 12 and 14.
This just adds one more attack to what has been a hard and perilous year for Turkey. They have suffered multiple attacks from both ISIS and Kurdish militants from the Kurdistan workers' party.
The attack was carried out close to the country's Syrian border. In a southeastern part of Turkey. President Erdogan has said that ISIS is "the most likely perpetrator of the Gaziantep attack."
This attack comes just a month after a failed coup attempt, that was blamed on followers of U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah, left the country weak and struggling to stay at peace.
“These bloodthirsty organizations and the powers behind them have neither the will nor power to silence the calls to prayer, lower the flag, divide our motherland, and break up our nation,” President Erdogan said about ISIS, Kurdish militants, and Fethullah's followers.
National Security Council spokesperson Ned Price said that “The perpetrators of this barbaric act cynically and cowardly targeted a wedding, killing dozens and leaving scores wounded,” in a statement released on Sunday from the white house. In it Price also reaffirmed that Vice president Joe Biden will be visiting Ankara, the Turkish capital, to reaffirm our intent to “confront the scourge of terrorism,”
This has been the worst and deadliest attack the nation has suffered in 2016, closely followed by another ISIS attack to Istanbul's main airport in June that left 44 dead.
