New York Fashion Week kicked off with a bang on Thursday, February 8. From the glamorous late-night parties to much-awaited shows, it's no surprise that great fashion looks filled the streets nonstop since the first day. As always, some exciting new trends and new faces have emerged this year. New, bright take on minimalism, fun pattern play, oversized athleisure and of course the revival of 80s and 90s inspired looks, were just a few major players during the first few days of NYFW. Many of the coolest ensembles can be the inspiration you need to breathe new life into your wardrobe as we inch towards Spring.
1. Pattern Play
As always mixing patterns is a unique way to incorporate multiple trends into one outfit and always looks extremely fashion forward. Stripes, plaids and simple florals work very well together without looking too allover the place.
2. Hoodies with Tailored Coats and Jackets
I am a big fan of this trend. It really shows how versatile a basic item like a hoodie can be for your wardrobe. Layering a hoodie underneath a tailored style coat is simple and effortless looking, but very fashion forward. A more modern take layers a "teddy coat on top". Sticking to neutral color combinations ensures a more put together look if you're wanting to try this out for yourself.
3. Pink
This trend does not surprise me considering Valentine's Day vibes are a major inspiration for many style stars this month. However, the surprising part is how the hue is being chosen as the staple part of many outfits. From statement coats to booties, shades of bright pink were a fun twist for taking a simple street style look up a notch, or as the color palette for monochromatic looks.
4. Dressed Up Mom Jeans
I'm already biased towards liking any outfit that involves mom jeans. But the looks from NYFW prove vintage-inspired denim is better in so many ways. Mom jeans are a versatile style staple. Dressing them up with tailored silhouettes or puffer coats and heeled booties was a street style go-to that's easy to recreate.
5. New Twists on Minimalism
Minimalism doesn't just mean sleek silhouettes in neutral tones anymore. NYFW helped open everyone's eyes to new possibilities with the incorporation of sky bright pieces, colorblocking and even monochromatic looks. This new wave of minimalism definitely makes the trend worth trying if you haven't already.
Fashion Week isn't over yet. These fun trends can serve as some fashion inspiration for the rest of these chilly winter days. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. That's what fashion is for!
