There has been a lot of commotion over wearing oversized t-shirts and Nike shorts (also known as 'norts') in public lately. I will proudly say that I am an XL t-shirt wearing girl and I will not apologize for it.
No, wearing a large comfortable t-shirt that says "I survived National Hot Dog Day" does not mean that I don't care. It's actually insulting that people are so closely relating looks to morals. My shorts and oversized tee actually have nothing to do with my intelligence, effort or ethics. Just because I believe in being comfortable when I can be, does not mean I am not a successful grown woman. Not to mention, college does not make you a full blown adult and I will take advantage of the last few years I have of not being one.
I will agree that there is definitely a time and place for athleisure clothing. However, this does not restrict you to only wearing your Lulu leggings in the comfort of your own home or at the gym. Of course, you aren't going to show up to a job interview with your hair in a bun and an XL shirt with smeared makeup from the night before. However, wearing it to class and just going around town is completely appropriate and is also your own personal decision.
So no, I do not believe that I need to "try harder" during my everyday life. I refuse to put on makeup and I do not need to dress in different clothing to feel confident. I think if you can strut your stuff while having a bare face and an outfit that gives you zero shape means you are one strong ass woman and you should definitely not apologize for that.
