“Ladies, we actually prefer you without makeup!”
“And we prefer you with money. So here we all are, dissatisfied.”
Anyone who knows me knows my love for makeup, but they also know that it is a rare occasion to find me wearing it on weekdays.
Let’s get some things straight though. I don’t not wear makeup because I feel like guys like an all natural, plain Jane kinda girl. I don’t wear makeup (whenever I do wear it) because I feel like it’s going to make men attracted to me.
People who wear makeup wear it for themselves. They wear it because it makes them feel empowered and confident; they wear it purely for the satisfaction of themselves. I don’t wear makeup for the pure satisfaction of sleep. It just is what it is.
Every night I make a commitment to myself that I’m going to get up and look nice for class, but that alarm sure goes off early; that being said, I ultimately always choose sleep.
When I come to class looking homeless with my last minute curls and bare face, it’s more than likely because waking up at 7:30 A.M. to just hop in the shower and have more time to sleep was a little more tempting than waking up at 6:00 A.M. to do my hair and makeup. I go to class to learn, not to make a fashion statement.
However, there are people who wake up as early to look their best for class. They walk in with their head held high and flip their hair behind their shoulders. You can almost see the confidence radiate off of them, which is amazing too. I applaud those people and wish I could manage to wake up on time.
BUT-- don’t wear makeup because you feel like it makes others like you better. Don’t wear it because you feel like you will be finally accepted. Don’t not wear makeup because you feel like your makeup skills aren’t up to par enough.
Don’t not wear makeup because you feel like people prefer an all natural kinda gal. Anything you do should be for the pure enjoyment of YOU. As I type this, I sit here with messy eyebrows, exposing the acne and dark circles under my eyes and just went to two classes like this.
My question: why are people always bashing others for doing what they like? If we wear makeup every day, then we’re trying too hard. If we don’t wear makeup, we’re slobs that don’t care about our appearances. Well, that just seems a little unfair to me. Where else is there to go? Do we wear the makeup, or do we not wear the makeup? I say do whatever you feel like doing.
Really, do it for yourself. Don’t feel ugly without your makeup. Let the makeup just be an extra confidence boost.
I’ll admit. There are days where I think, “Damn, I probably should have gotten up a little early so I could actually look like a functioning human. I look disgusting.” And maybe one day, I will. Until that day comes, I will continue to enjoy my extra hour of sleep.
