Part II of II.

Growing up in and around Washington D.C., an area very close to Baltimore it disgust me on a level that I can not express that a police state which rivals the brutality and racism of the south during segregation was so close to place I lived. While I am not naive to believe racism does not exist as I have seen it since the day I could read I could first understand the world around me. The reason I am disgusted is because I know the human race can a lot better than this, it is not a difficult thing to see another human being of a different culture or skin tone and treat them as though they are no different from any white person you meet. Does the Baltimore Police Department have the slightest shred of humanity in their pathetically small craniums to understand we live in time with a black president, with black scientists, black athletes, black priest and other black leaders in all walks of life. The fact they care so little about humans who differ only in a slight pigment of skin tone is repulsive.

The fact is, a lot of these people involved in this corrupt system, especially the ones in power, have never had a hard day of being who they are in their entire lives. Most of whom are white and some come from wealthy families who sheltered in a life most never get to experience and also treated as an equal since birth and cannot begin to fathom life any other way than that. They, most likely, emulate people older than themselves who came from a generation where this kind of thing was acceptable and a normal occurrence.

The leaders of the Baltimore Police Department do not even try to put the five brain cells they have left to realize not every person from history was that great. Our founding fathers included, were also a bunch of religious extremists and bigoted racists with a few good ideas who believed the statement "equal rights for all" only applied to white males like themselves. Another more recent racist includes Goldwater, a well known racist political figure whom Hillary Clinton -- the current Democratic nominee for president in the 2016 election -- once openly supported. Goldwater was one of few to not back the Civil Rights Act; what should have been an obvious yes vote turned into legal wording jargon as he tried to explain the Constitution would not allow it on technicalities. Anyone past the age of five that is cognitively able should have the common sense to never support anyone of that nature, yet Hillary herself openly supported him. What a loser, and you dare to call yourself a progressive candidate?

Looking back at racism in America it took the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, to change the Constitution to include rights to those of all races. Despite his efforts, the fight for equality was nowhere near complete. Adding to the fight for civil rights, the sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated for the just cause of equality, a true martyr. Yet these men and women in charge of the police department today look to imitate those who came before them without realizing they are a bunch of racist as well.

While I respect my own American roots, I by no means accept them as perfect. In fact, I see heavy flaws in many parts of the Constitution and in laws made today that unfairly impact minorities simply trying to get by. I would like to see the Baltimore police department fight on the side of equality and bettering lives of minority instead of oppressing them into the shadows. Instead of continuing a bitter war of hatred a bunch of outdated politicians believed in to grow their communities closer not use others a punching bags or training dummies. There needs to be justice in Baltimore and until the leaders of the department wrap their heads around some of these basic human rights concepts they deserve zero respect.

We cannot, however, sit around lamenting on how crappy the Democratic candidate is, we have to act on our own. Listed below is an email link and a phone number where you can send a message and have your voice be heard to not only the mayor of Baltimore, but also the civilian review board of the Baltimore police Department which needs to be forced into action. I urge readers to take a little time out your day to email officials and board members to take legal action on those responsible for this extreme police state and those officers who have been caught using force and violence sporadically, instead of maintaining peace, which is literally their jobs mission statement. To protect and serve, not to beat up innocent Americans walking down the street. I am sure many cops join in hopes of busting criminals and looking as cool as an actor in Clint Eastwood movie, but that is not their job. Many have lost sight of the actual goal they are paid to perform and are using their badge as an excuse to to hurt others rather than to protect and serve.

(Remember these emails are to get others to act and hold the police department responsible so act civil, these are the contact emails of those who commit these atrocities)

Email Civilian Review Board: Phone number 410-396-3141. Tell them to pursue investigations on violent cops who needlessly arrest anyone without legal authority and also remove those who have spear headed the creation of this out of control police state.

Link to email the mayor of Baltimore: http://mayor.baltimorecity.gov/node/28. Urge the mayor to completely reform the police department and those especially at the top of the department in Baltimore.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
