Back in April of 2015 a young man named Freddie Gray was killed in police custody after being arrested for supposedly owning an illegal switch blade knife. A knife you can buy online through ebay and amazon and have shipped to anywhere in the United States. Funny you can order one online to be shipped to your place of residents but then possessing said knife will then make you a criminal. The Freddie Gray case then became a widespread account of police not using tactics in best interest of the citizen's they are paid to protect. This media attention was also due to lack of safety given while he was in the custody in the back of a police van being operated by the Baltimore police department. Carelessness on behalf of the officers led to this mans death who really should not have been arrested in the first place. If you really think owing a switch blade knife makes you a criminal then you have a really warped sense of justice. Many civilians can carry automatic weapons in public places without consequence, yet one black kid can get killed over fifteen dollar knife bought a sporting goods store in the same city he was killed. That is not justice its lazy violence crazing cops who own a badge they do not ever deserve.
This tragedy also blatantly exposes deep seeded racism and the presence of a racist police state that has gone out of control in Baltimore. According to the Baltimore Sun blacks and whites in Baltimore use drugs at equal rates yet a black individual is five times more likely to be arrested for drug possession compared to whites; and, not only that, black citizens make up 91% of all arrest of trespassing and failure to obey. The cops hardly even try to attempt to hide their motives making the racism within the department crystal clear. When you arrest blacks 91 percent of the time for something compared to other races you have ulterior motives in mind. Motives that came from the ugliest and egregious part of American history.
That begs the question though-- why? Why are bad cops drawn to beating, shooting and arresting black citizens? Thanks to a good cop who left the department after being unable to stand in support of the police departments tactics. The former officer has been openly exposing the acts of racism in his department. Former Baltimore cop, Micheal A. Wood Jr., has taken to twitter recounting acts of hate crimes committed against the black community from local bad cops in Baltimore. The acts committed were horrendous; one tweet recounted the time an officer slapped a black lady in the face for accidentally bumping into him. While another tweet depicted a man being "punted" in the face while handcuffed and in police custody under complete control.
Despicable. These cops should serve jail time be unable to hold a weapon at any time. There is little justification against these acts even against someone of the officer's own race. Yet the city's departure of justice has made no move to hold any officers to account including those involved including those involved in the Freddie Gray case. Showing they are not any better than the cops themselves.
