We Need More Journalists, Even If Journalism Is A 'Dying Field'

Someone needs to tell the story.

There is so much going on in the world right now, with all of the politics, natural disasters, and many other things. We usually have someone covering it, but sometimes there are small but important things that aren't being covered, which is why we need more journalists in every part of the world.

I always knew I wanted to write but it took me until college to realize that I wanted to give people a platform to share their stories. What I usually write is feel good stories, stories that will inspire and motivate people. I want to do that more in the future, with National Geographic or with any kind of platform that allows me to share the stories of others.

Some people have questioned me being a journalism major saying that it is a dying field and that I wont get much money out of it. When I look at it they aren't completely wrong.

I feel like sometimes people who want to go into journalism may not actually go into it because they are afraid they wont get a job, because of people telling them that they shouldn't. Well I think they should because now more than ever we need journalists.

Often, I look at multiple news sources in order to find out what is going on in the world. One time there was a heartfelt story about a teen with Down Syndrome getting into college and while there were nice comments some people had to make it political or say "this isn't real news".

To reply to that statement, everything is real news. What is so wrong with having a story to make people smile? With everything that is going on in the world right now, we could use some happy stories.

That is why we need journalists not just to cover this big news but to also cover the small but important news as well.

It could be anything from a WWII veteran celebrating his 102nd birthday, a kid making a difference in the world, a group making a big donation to schools in need. None of that stuff is useless news. It's stuff that is making people happy and I am glad there are more journalists covering those kinds of stuff.

We also need journalists so they can tell the truth about what is going on, no journalist should be one-sided, they need to get stories from both sides. Unless you are writing an opinion piece try not to make your piece sound bias. They want to hear both sides, not a one-sided piece. That's why most journalists, like myself, are neutral when it comes to politics.

We need journalists who are neutral, we need journalists who are conservative, we need journalists who are liberal, we just need journalists in general. As long as they don't insult people because of their views, I don't really care what their views are.

If you are an aspiring journalist, don't let the stigma keep you down, keep going for your dream, never stop searching for the truth. While the field may be dying we are the ones that are keeping it on life support!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
