How The Internet Age Has Sucked Away Our Desire For Knowledge

Simple concept here: read – learn.

What in the world has happened to this world? Society, as we all well know, has quite a few problems. That's to be expected, yet seemingly not a single person wants to fix it. The reason for this is because we are all caught up in the same mindset, and have the same problem.

No one has a desire for knowledge anymore.

Am I wrong? Not many people in the day and age we live in, actively strive to incorporate into our lives new content and information. Everyone is content to simply be, without any such desire to expand their minds.

The younger generation is glued to their phones. Kids are taught the wrong way, weird types of math are popping up, and no one has any respect for the pattern of learning that facilitated some of the best thinkers of all time.

I have a theory for this; words. Let me explain. Actually, first of all, let me preface by saying I am completely guilty. Everyone is sucked into the Internet aged rapidity of acquiring information. No one does anything unless it involves their phones. No one reads, no one writes, no one takes time to appreciate a good book or construct a passage of their own, they just Tweet of the handle like it’s nothing. There are no consideration, no anticipation, it just happens because we can type 100 miles an hour.

Honestly, when was the last time you picked up a book? When was the last time you actually hand wrote something with a pencil and paper? It's amazing how I have to think about that answer.

We are losing our creativity as a society, largely in part due to our generation. We need to read books more, and learn about broad varieties of subjects, in able to expand our array of thinking. We limit our minds to simply what we already know and fail to comprehend a great deal. It's rather sad, how fast we are falling apart. It's becoming detrimental to civilization that we don't genuinely care about enhancing our own minds. Without that, we will be left with a society that barely can make smart decisions because we have handcuffed the options and variety of ways we formulate solutions to problems.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
