Hearing about the insensitive, disrespectful, and ridiculous things going on not only in the world in general, but also on the college campus I call home, makes me sick to my stomach. We have a very significant problem going on in this world today, and the root of this problem begins with our very own egos.
Campus is beautiful, there’s no doubt. I could sit and stare at it for days without bothering to blink an eye. Campus is where my heart is. Sometimes, however, things that look flawless on the outside are internally torn apart by the heartlessness of others. I hate to have to admit this even though it is the hard truth: you will find people everywhere who believe that they are better than everyone else. When faced with this dilemma, it is important for everyone who is being affected to embrace their remarkable qualities and show the world the value of their existence.
Each time I experience a significant divide between a large group of people, it deeply saddens me. We were all made by the same creator, and there is no reason why a certain group of people should feel entitled to more than others. Even when I am not a part of the group who is being demeaned, I still put my foot down and fight for their dignity. This world is not just reserved for a certain group, it is open to all humans, no matter their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, etc. We do not have to agree with everyone we meet, but we do have the right to respect them.
As an ending thought, I would like to encourage everyone reading this to go outside of their comfort zones today. Do something nice for someone who you have never spoken to before. Befriend a person who looks lonely. All of these small actions build into something bigger, and all of these actions strengthen the inimitable bond which binds us together as unique individuals on an identical mission. Go spread some peace today.
