Finals are over. Take a breath. After months of stress, the end has finally come. Finals may or may not have gone how you were hoping, but, for most people, you'll never have to take that class again because what's done is done. That being said, as school stress fades, family stress rises. As you're forced to be surrounded by your relatives, you will almost definitely be assaulted with the usual questions and comments: "Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend", "how are you're grades?", "Oo, looks like someone has had enough to eat at school", etc. That shouldn't ruin this holiday season, which should be filled with all sorts of holly, jolly joy. Here are just a few ways to stay as chill as snow this holiday season:
Take A Run
I personally hate running. I do it every morning, but I still loathe it with an unbridled passion. For the longest time, I held true to the fact that one shouldn't run unless being chased, but running has its advantages. It's a great, hands on way to blow off steam. It's hard to feel ticked off when you barely have the energy to walk. You simply focus that suppressed grumpiness on moving forward.
Try Some Yoga
I'm not flexible, nor have I ever been, but I know TONS of people who swear by it to relax. Similar to running, yoga is focusing all of your pent up energy into something besides losing your mind. Look online for local studios and get started soon! Many studios will have coupons for first timers or for the holiday. You may find a great new hobby to enjoy throughout the year.
Enjoy Nature
Whether you're going on a hike or biking or whatever else, take time to turn off the electric items in your life. Turn your attention to the sunrise or sunset or the beautiful landscape around you. It gives you a chance to find a beautiful place to just sit and take everything in. If you're not comfortable going out there by yourself or you don't think it would be helpful, drag a friend along.
Mindful Meditation
Last but not least, there are multiple apps or youtube channels that help you meditate. Multiple CEOs have seen the importance of emotional intelligence, and so should you. Just five minutes a day will not only help center you at that moment, but it will also help you become more in touch with your own understanding of your emotions which will help keep you from losing your cool.
These are just a few of many ways to stay relaxed and centered this holiday season. If none of these appeal to you, start googling. There are a plethora of ideas from A to Z that you can use, and it doesn't hurt to try a few because it won't be long before you find what works best for you.
