Summer is a time for relaxation, fun and easy living. The sun shines brighter and the days seem longer, kids are out of school and life is a breeze. However, if your live in the peninsula called Florida the word ‘summer’ has a different significance. While the season still brings happiness, it also comes with difficulties that only Floridians understand. But even with 100 percent humidity I can’t imagine a summer anywhere else, so here’s a little insight on the things Floridians go through from May to September.
1. The importance of parking in the shade.
Going the extra mile to park in a shady spot even though it’s four times further away. Even when there are 10 open parking spaces in the front the ones in the back under the trees are the spaces for me. This way when you come back to your car it’s a tolerable 90 degrees instead of 102.
2. It rains everyday, no surprises.
Thankfully there is a short thunderstorm EVERYDAY. This was you can plan your cookouts around exactly what time it is going to rain. It usually starts with lots and lots of thunder then a torrential downpour. The kind or rain that makes you stop on the highway or makes you feel like you just got out of the shower when you walk to your car.
3. Drink water or pass out.
Florida is a vacationer paradise. Disney, Universal and Busch Gardens areperfect places to spent a summer day. However, if you aren’t used to the heat stay out of the kitchen, these places are less magical when it's. It’s hard to enjoy a nice Mickey show when you’ve passed out from a heat stroke.
4. Nature's pool: The beach
On top of super fun vacation destinations, Florida’s famous beaches are even more sizzling in the summer. Don’t even think about walking around on the sand without shoes, it’s the equivalent to walking on the sun. Then people spend hours laying on towels sweating until they get hot enough to get in the water. Once in the water it is not much cooler than the outside air so you feel like you’re in a nice toasty bath. It’s extremely refreshing in a weird way.
5. Get chores done before it reaches 100 degrees.
Anything like mowing the yard or other physical activity outside should be done from 6 a.m. to 10 a. m. any time past that is the danger zone. In these hours you are in danger of melting while you clean the pool etc. Most neighbors love this because your starting your loud lawn tools at the crack of dawn!!
6. Bugs love summer more than people.
From the hours of 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. you are fair game for mosquitoes. While we Floridians have them all year, they particularly love summer. When it’s humid and the suns going down they will not hesitate to literally eat you alive. Thankfully we have bug repellent so you can feel sticky and wet for a couple hours, but the bugs will stay off of you.
Florida is a gorgeous place to live. We can offer you all the things your look for in a permanent or summer place to call home. Just remember when you cross the border from those other, cooler states we have orange juice waiting for you because it is too hot to be without it.
