12 Ways To Master Your Mental Strength

You cannot control what life throws at you, but you can control how you react to it.

12 Ways To Master Your Mental Strength

I read a book called "13 Things Mentally Strong People Do Not Do" by Amy Morin that inspired me to write this article. She is licensed clinical social worker, college psychology, and psychotherapist. So we can safely say this woman has a great understanding of the mind. She is the only professional that is talking about mental strength on a global level. Because life will throw anything your way, I think mental strength is key to a healthy life. Although I respect this author very much, I did not like how the every one of the ways was something negative. So I took her ways of developing mental strength and gave a positive spin to them!

1. Gratitude

Being grateful for what and who you have in your life will show you how fruitful your life is. Regardless of negative or positive that events happen in your life, you can recognize and count your blessings. Something I have done in the past is to keep a journal and each day (or week) write down things you are grateful for. In the hustle and bustle of life, a journal can help you reflect on the things you are grateful for.

2. Remember you have power

One of my favorite quotes in the entire universe from the VERY intelligent Eleanor Roosevelt is "no can make you inferior without your consent." Remind yourself that you are the captain of your ship, and you can sail your ship in whatever which way you chose. You have power. Do not let anyone (even yourself) tell you otherwise.

3. Be open to change

This is so much easier said than done. But think about this way, if you embrace change then you will be more prepared for whatever shenanigans life will throw at you.

4. Focus on the things you can control

Like I said, life will throw it all at you and not give two shizits how you feel about it. You cannot control what life throws at you, but you can control how you react to it.If you focus on the things you can control, you will be able to handle obstacles that come your way.

5. Help yourself

Be aware of who you are. Physically and emotionally. I firmly believe that before you take care or love others you must love yourself first. Treat your body and soul well. It is the only one you have.

6. Take calculated risks

In life, you can risk it for the biscuits. People say life is about taking risks.I agree with this, as long as it is a calculated risk. If you something you want to do in life and you plan for it, then what is stopping you? Fear. Don't let it. Go for it.

7. Be here now

It is so easy to reminisce about the past and think about the future. I think the most challenging thing is to be in the present. Being here now will make you appreciate those moments as they are happening.

8. Learn from your mistakes and move forward

You can beat yourself up for it and ruminate on the negative thoughts or you can accept the fact that you are a human being and you make mistakes. Once you come to terms with this, you can reflect on your mistakes and learn from them. You are growing and changing and you will make mistakes. Learn from them and better yourself.

9. Celebrate other people's success

Especially with social media nowadays.

10. Keep trying

Perseverance is key to mental strength. Even if you feel like you are not making any progress, you are.

11. Have some time for yourself

No matter how busy you are it is key to find time for yourself. Even if you have to set aside 5 or 10 minutes to JUST BE and do what you want, it will make all the difference in your life.

12. Work hard, work smart

If you combine working hard and working smart you will succeed. I think it is important to do both so you are still being productive but at the same time not overwhelming yourself.

We never know what is going to happen in our lives. Things can change in an instant. Life is strange. Especially when it comes to this age of young adulthood. Nobody really knows what they are doing. (If you do I must see you oh wise guru). I think building mental strength is a pivotal step in helping yourself to live a better existence. And never forget, through this crazy ride, you are not alone and you can do anything.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
