Some college students choose to stay at school over the summer, while others will be returning home. Whether you're saving money, or just haven't lived in off-campus housing yet, you don't know what you're going to do with yourself when you return home. If you go away for school like me, all of your college friends are nowhere within four hours of you, which means you're going to have to keep yourself busy. Here are a few ideas that may keep you from going crazy this summer.
1. Get organized.
Personally, I am one of the least organized people you'll ever meet. Now that it's summer, you'll have plenty of time to get organized and actually get your life together. It's amazing how much better one can focus when their space is clutter free, so start making it a habit now, so it carries on during the upcoming semester!
2. Road trips.
Who doesn't love a good road trip? Listening to music with the windows down, singing (badly) with all of your friends, all while going to a new place to adventure. These don't have to be expensive, especially if everyone chips in for gas, so plan a weekend with you friends from out of town friends, or your friends from back home, and take a road trip to somewhere you've never been!
3. Work.
Now, this isn't the most fun, but you know what is fun? Having money. Summer is the best opportunity to get in as many hours as you can, so you can save up for when you go back to school. You won't have a heavy course load on your shoulders, so you probably won't even mind working all the time. Plus, let's be honest, we're probably all going to be broke again by November, so let's try to make as much money as possible.
4. Spending time with the fam.
Since going off for school, you probably haven't been able to spend nearly as much time with your family as before, unless you commute, but you should take advantage of the time you have with your family. They really aren't that bad, especially when you realize how much of a brat you were in high school, and how you thought they were out to make your life miserable. I like being home with my family, even if they get on my nerves sometimes, but that's what family is for.
5. Hit the gym.
If you've always wanted to start working out or start living a healthier lifestyle, then do it! People are naturally happier in the summer and a lot more motivated. You don't have to get a gym membership to get in shape. Run outside or look up workouts you can do in your backyard, so you can save the extra $10 a month.
Hopefully one of these seems fun and or productive, and if not, summer is summer and just be glad you're not in an 8 a.m. lecture hall right now.
