"The Late Late Show with James Corden," aired on CBS, has some of the most fun segments of a talk show that I’ve ever come across. "Carpool Karaoke" is particularly exciting. In these short segments James and his vocally gifted celebrity guests sing along to songs on the car stereo while driving and having casual conversation.
I’m not sure what’s more impressive: celebrities singing their own songs the way we sing them in our cars, or Corden’s ability to keep up. No, really, he sang “Hello” by Adele and didn’t miss a single note. They sang to the Spice Girls after that, which was also awesome.
I like to think that most of the world agrees with me about this. An article on Variety’s website said that CBS’ video, "Adele Carpool Karaoke" got more than 42 million views in it first five days on YouTube. This was “the most viral video any late-night TV show has produced since 2013.”
I think what’s most exciting is that Corden is able to humanize celebrities. Whether he’s discussing Iggy Azalea’s wedding or the secret behind Sia’s wig, he said in an interview with the New York Post that he enjoys filming these successful people on their own: genuine and unguarded. “I think they find that very liberating and there’s a joy in that I’m very proud of”.
Some of my favourite moments are when he choreographs a seated dance routine for One Direction with matching denim jackets, and texts Leonardo DiCaprio from Jennifer Lopez’s phone! (Those links are embedded so you can watch them right now).
Although the concept of late-night TV is new to both me and James Corden, as he said in his interview, I find "The Late Late Show’s" "Carpool Karaoke" to be one of the most entertaining segments out there.
