*Trigger warning about sexual assault*

Oh Bryce. For a while I thought you just somehow weren’t on Hannah’s tapes because you didn’t show up. Then we got to Justin’s second tape, and we saw you doing something wrong. You “allegedly” had sex with Jessica. We finally got to your tape and learned you did something else wrong. You had sex with Hannah.

But can we really call it just having sex with them? Was it really just “allegedly?”

No, it wasn’t just sex. Yes, it did happen. The girls didn’t want it. It was rape.

Bryce, you raped Jessica and Hannah.

But Jessica was asleep, she didn’t say no. Jessica let herself get really drunk, maybe she shouldn’t have drank that much. Hannah never said no. Hannah was just about naked anyways. Hannah stopped fighting him. It was just sex, that shouldn’t have made Jessica have an alcohol problem and shouldn’t have pushed Hannah to killing herself.

Now for those of you still reading this, don’t hate me. Those are just the excuses I hear all of the time about real life rape cases. The victims (or survivors) are so often blamed when they get sexually assaulted. The media, friends and family, and strangers all have blamed the survivor before, and not the one who actually did the assaulting. Hannah’s was fake. It was a TV show and a book. However, this happens all of the time. In real life. In my life.

It was clear as day from the TV show that these two girls were raped. I don’t think I have seen anyone react easily to those assault scenes or use any of those excuses I mentioned above. Why? Because we were able to see those rape scenes and we were able to see the pain in those girls’ eyes before, during, and even after the assault. Well guess what people? That’s real life. The mental draining, the bruises, the hurt, the excuses, the bad memories, everything. That is all real.

So was Bryce a rapist? Yes. If someone is asleep, that is not consent. If someone stops fighting to try and get away, that doesn’t mean that they have given consent. Just because someone did not say no, if they did not say yes then no consent has been given. If someone is too drunk to make decisions, there is no consent.

The only yes, is a yes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
