Walmart: it's simultaneously our best friend and our worst enemy. Whenever you go there, we as shoppers are faced with two options. We either go there purely out of boredom (can you say "college?") or we go there when we need something from an ingredient in a recipe to an above ground pool; however, half of the time, they don't have what you need. What Walmart never fails to have, though, is an abundance of shoppers that make you question your sanity and sometimes the state of your eyesight. Why is it that Walmart is not as held to as high a standard as other shopping marts like Kroger or Target?
It never fails: whenever you go to Walmart, a.k.a. "Wally World" or "the Mart," we shoppers are faced with individuals from all walks of life. Walmart has become synonymous with low prices and low standards. People of Walmart now find that is is acceptable to walk into Walmart while wearing he same clothes they rolled out of bed in, hair in rollers, and bedroom slippers that appear to have been tracked through the great wilderness. Pages upon pages of pictures now pop up on our social media feeds with the infamous, "People of Walmart," who quite frankly look like they've been dragged to hell and back.
Alongside the lack of a respectable dress code, Walmart seems to attract some of the laziest people that the town has to offer. Many a time have I seen people park next to the front door simply because they were too lazy to walk from the parking lot. I have seen a multitude of people park in handicap parking spaces that don't have a handicap sticker or tag, and have fully admitted that they were "too tired" to walk, therefore robbing an actual disabled individual from obtaining the spot they physically need. Walmart is also famous for their motorized shopping carts, which seem to be more for people who are too tired to walk rather than people who are physically incapable of moving due to a handicap.
Not only are some shoppers downright lazy, but many people in Walmart seem to feel that they're entitled to sampling anything that Walmart has to offer from food to paper towels to food for a pet they've smuggled in in their purse. It simply astounds me at the lack of respect people hold for a private establishment simply due to the fact that it has gained the reputation that it has.
So, next time you prepare to go to the grocery store, brush your hair, put on real pants and shoes, park like a responsible driver, and don't rob those who are physically disabled. We need to begin to hold Walmart to the same standard as we hold Target, Kroger and even Aldi to. Walmart has developed a reputation for filth and laziness and we need to make an attempt to better ourselves in order to better the establishment we so heavily rely on.
