A walk sounds amazing.

When we got to the foot of the stairs Branson smiled at me and continued reading his paper. The boys were playing by the fireplace, and Agitha was sitting next to Branson snowing. I do not know what it was, but I did not really want to be around people. I think Seamus sensed this and told the family, “Irean an I be goin out for a small turn bout the estate. What time will supper be served Aunt?”

“Supper be in two ‘ours Seamus. Ye both need to be wearing something round yer selves. The wind be mighty cold,” Agitha answered.

“Thanks,” Seamus said and we walked to the front door. We put on our shoes, and Seamus grabbed two coats off of the shelf. He handed me one, and I put it one. He put one over his shoulders and opened the door. I stepped out of the house. Seamus followed closing the door. “Now that ye be out of the ‘ouse ‘ow bout a walk?” he asked with a smile and grabbing my hand.

“A walk sounds amazing,” I smiled back. With my hand in his we began to walk to the right towards a very tall hill. It took us a few minutes to make it all the way up, but we made it. At the top all I could see was lush green land. It looked like something out of a dream. You could see the sun setting when you looked back out towards the house. “This is beautiful. I can’t believe you have gotten to see this so many times. I don’t think I have ever seen anything like it,” I said in awe.

“Ye bein ‘ere makes it all the more wonderful,” he answered back turning towards me.

I looked back at him and wrapped my arms around his neck. He then wrapped his hands around my waist and we just stared at one another. His beautiful eyes stared into mine. What did he see in me? I am nothing special. I am just an orphan. We sat like that until the sun went down. We walked back to the house just in time for dinner.

Agitha had made salted brisket, potatoes, and cabbage for dinner. Everyone talked this time. Branson talked more about the history of the estate. Agitha told the boys not to play with their food. Seamus commented on the oncoming Autumn. I just sat and listened. It was nice so be surrounded by loving conversation. I let my mind wonder to my parents. We used to sit around our little table and talk about fun things.

“Irean, Irean,” I heard Agitha calling my name. I snapped out of my reverie. “Did ye hear me?” I shook my head apologetically. “I asked if ye wanted to go shopping with me in town tomorrow? The boys be needing few things, and I thought I might be getting ye a new wardrobe, rather than ye be wearing the same clothes of of the time,” she said looking expectantly at me.

“I would be happy to come. I don’t have very much money though,” I answered back.

“Don’t ye be worrying yer head bout that. Branson and I would be ‘appy to be getting ye a few new clothes. I not be ‘avin a girl to shop for in a great many year,” she said agains with a hopeful smile.

“Alright, but just a few clothes. I do not want to be a burden after you all have done so much for me already,” I agreed.

“Not a burden at all. I be the one who suggested it,” Branson chimed in.

“I said I will go. I have to warn you Agitha I am a very lousy shopper. I have had no practice,” I answered with a small grin.

“Well it be a goo thing that I be a great one,” she laughed.

The rest of the meal was a flurry of conversation directed to where we should go, and what places we shouldn’t. She talked about what shoes matched what pants and dresses. I just felt very warm on the inside. The last time I ever remember clothes shopping was when my mother too me for an Easter dress that I never got to wear. Agitha and my mother seemed to have so many similarities. While Agitha talked I just looked at her. She had so many gentle features to her face. I assume she was in her middle forties since she has raised Seamus alongside Branson. She had mousy brown hair that was beginning to grey at the temples. That was one of the only pieces of evidence that she was in her middle years. I looked closer to eyes and saw just a minor hint of crows feet. She was a beautiful woman. If I looked at her face in a crowd all I would think was kindness.

Emerging from my thoughts I noticed supper had ended. I stood up with the rest of the family. The boys left the dining room, and Agitha began to clear the table. “Let me help,” I said picking up mine and Seamus’s plates.

“Oh dear ye don be needin to be helpin. You be our guest,” she said with a smile.

“I know. I would just like to,” I answered back with a smile. She gave a small nod and grabbed a few more plates and walked to the kitchen. I followed. Realizing I had never been in this room before I stopped and admired. It was beautiful. It was modern unlike the rest of the house. Lots of marble counters and chrome appliances. “Your kitchen is beautiful,” I said setting the plates in my hands down by the sink.

“Thank ye. Branson be allowed to ‘ave the final say on what the rest of the house likes, but I be ‘avin the final say on me kitchen,” she said in a mocking humorous tone. I chuckled along with her and followed her back into the dining room to finish clearing the table. I did not just stop the help after the clearing. I helped her clean the dishes to. She sang and talked away. To be honest I barely heard a word she said. I just enjoyed the warmth of her company.

We finished the cleaning of the kitchen and went to join the boys in the Icommon room. I sat on the loveseat next to Seamus ad felt him put his arm over my shoulders as he read his book. I smiled a small smile and picked up a book on the coffee table next to the loveseat. The Art of War, I smiled. I opened the book and began to read. The room was very quiet. The only sound was the occasional sound of a page turn. The clock chimed that it was ten o’clock and Branson stood up.

“Well it be time for bed me lads. Go and changes into yer night clothes and clean your teeth,” he said to the three boys. They all let put a sigh and ran up stairs to do what their father told them. “Ye two don be stayin up to late now ye ‘ear? Agitha be right excited to be takin ye shoppin tomorrow Irean,” he said with a smile.

“Oh Dear ye leave em alone. They be young. Ye and I never used to be goin to bed early,” she said in what I assumed was a sultry tone. Seamus and I both froze and looked at her with wide eyes. She just looked at Branson, whose cheeks were the color of cheeks were the color of cherries, smiled, and walked up the stairs.

Branson looked at her as she walked up the stairs took at us, and back up the stairs. “Well G’night ye two,” he said and moved in a quicker than normal pase up the stairs.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
