visiting Pittsburgh, PA For The First Time

The amazing experience.

I have always had the small desire to visit this city. After having many of my college friends reside in this area, and after hearing the enlightening things about the city, I knew I needed to go. I just had no idea when. After learning that the next college tour for my sister would be in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I was extremely excited to discover what Pittsburgh was really likeā€”as I had heard great things.

Our traveling has been kind of weird, as we entered Pittsburgh on Friday, stayed there until Sunday at around 4 p.m. to tour the University of Pittsburgh, and are now in University Park visiting Penn State until Tuesday. On Tuesday, we will then go back to Pittsburgh to stay in a hotel by the airport, so we can return back to Maine on Wednesday afternoon.

As I love traveling, I have been perfectly OK with the structure of our weekā€”especially since the sights in Pittsburgh have been amazing so far.

My mom, sister, and I explored so much of Pittsburgh on Friday. After settling into our hotel, we decided we needed to grab foodā€”which happened to be at the Hard Rock Cafe. Yes, this restaurant is extremely mainstream, but I find it interesting to see what Hard Rock's are like in different areas.

Afterward, we knew we needed to make it to the Duquesne Incline. I had a few friends of mine and mutuals on Instagram mentioning that I needed to make it to the incline and that the Duquesne Incline was the better one of the two. Although I had not been on the other Incline, we did explore it the following day on a city tour hosted by the University of Pittsburgh, and I would say that the view from the Duquesne Incline was betterā€”in my opinion.

After grabbing ice cream on "Mount Washington" at the top of the incline, we decided to head back down the incline and wrap up our day. We were all exhausted.

Saturday's schedule was also extremely busy. As we had my sisters UPitt college tour, we were able to tour more of the beautiful campus and visit the Cathedral of Learning. After the tour, we bought clothing from the bookstore, grabbed bubble tea from Sushi Fuku, and headed to our next endeavor. Knowing my family and me, we did wrap up our day by shopping at the outlets, as I would say we are all fashionistas.

I woke up before my mom and sister this morning, as I had scheduled most of my day to be with one of my best friends Aubrey who I met at Syracuse University. After jumping into each other's arms, we spent the day eating at the iconic Pamela's Diner of Pittsburgh, taking pictures in a field of black-eyed Susan flowers, visiting her house, meeting her friend from home and grabbing a gelato, and thrift shopping (which I am learning to love).

After an amazing day with Aubrey, my mom, sister, and I spent the late evening at the Melting Pot, each devouring an amazing four-course meal of fondue. We then drove a few hours over to our next hotel in University Park.

As we are all now at a hotel at Penn State University in University Park, we are all ready for the next few days of endeavors. It has been an extremely eventful trip, and I am extremely happy to validate that I love Pittsburgh just as much as I thought I would. I am definitely ready t catch some rest, to then explore University Park and see its comparison to the city of Pittsburgh.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
