The ABC's Of Villanova

Villanova University: a place of comfort, basketball and stressed students (just kidding, or am I). With tests fast approaching, it seems like everyone wants to get away from campus for a few days, but there are a few things everyone misses while they're having spending time apart. These Villanova eccentricities are common to us natives but can be described in 26 easy ways: the alphabet.

A - The athletes

One way to identify an athlete: see who's wearing their sweats.

B - Basketball

This was a given. I can't wait until Wells Fargo tailgate season comes back, but who's counting, right?

C - Campus Corner

CampCo is a sacred place on Villanova's campus. It's a blessing and a curse that it's open for all of your late night needs.

D - Doba Happy Hour

Every day. 5-7. Doba, technically called Qdoba if you want to get fancy, is one of the best things that's happened to me since coming to Villanova.

E - El Limon

Affordable food that actually tastes good! It's also BYOB-so next time you head over bring your own bottle and ask for a free pitcher of margarita mix.

F - Father Peter

While I've never actually had a full on conversation with Father Peter, he seems like a pretty cool dude. A priest and a president all in one, what a combo!

G - Grog

1 of 2 bars left on the main line. Sad.

H - Home Props

Being a mile away from campus, home props is a great place to live, besides the parking. Even though every single building looks alike and leasing center may or not be the worst possible place ever, having the freedom of living off campus is indescribable.

I - Insomnia

Within a college budget, delicious, and can be sent to any dorm on campus!!! Since the hours cater to college students, AKA they're open until 3 a.m., they're perfect for your late night sweet tooth.

J - Jay Wright

Jay Wright. You know, the guy you all secretly want to be/marry? The only guy on campus that is probably more likable than Father Peter? Yea, him.

K - Kelly's Taproom

The other bar left on the main line. Also a rite of passage for all Villanovans. I've literally seen a bride and groom come here after their wedding because it's such a special place.

L - Lancaster avenue

I have a love-hate relationship with this road.

M - March Madness

It's almost the sacred month: the month everyone sits on the edges of their seats and anxiously watches to see how much Villanova basketball is left in their year.

N - Nova Nation

Once you get into Villanova, you're a part of the Nation. The Nation is a place you are welcome at all times, a place to express school spirit and throw up your V's. (No, it's not a peace sign.)

O - Oreo

Does anybody honestly know what this sculpture is actually called?

P - Public Safety

While public safety sometimes seems like your worst enemy, they're actually not a bad group of people. They'll even drive you from Bartley to West late at night! (I've done this several times.)

Q - Quad

Living here seems great and is the "epitome of sophomore year." Not that I would know because I didn't get to live there, but I'm not salty or anything.

R - Radnor cops

The day Radnor cops start liking Villanova students is the day that the Oreo is called by its actual name.

S - South Campus

Oh, beloved South campus. The place where freshman start to realize that Nova isn't that big of a campus after all, especially after seeing everyone Sunday morning in the Spit.

T - Tolentine

I think the general consensus is that this building should've stayed burned to the ground.

U - Under Construction

Ha Ha! Will it ever end? Probably not! (Just kidding, but I graduate before it's over so...)

V - "V, for Villanova, V, for Victory"

Somehow, the song kind of turns into a mumble after these words. Sung after every basketball victory especially, the Villanova fight song is a common tune on campus.

W - Wildcat Path

Still sketchy.

X - The XC

"Anyone in xc?" is a common question in my group chat. The exchange is a great place to go if you want to people watch, but not if you want to get work done. One of my best friends recently referred to it as, "A high school cafeteria on steroids."

Y - Yangming

1) Y is hard. 2) Yangming is actually a pretty decent Chinese restaurant now that the cockroaches are gone!!

Z - Zilly fries

Obviously, you saw this one coming. What better way to end an article, then by making you dream of delicious fries covered in cheese and bacon and ranch?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
