I try to be a supportive girlfriend, I really do, but sometimes dating a gamer isn't always the easiest thing to do in the world. Sure, it can be cute, but for somebody who doesn't play video games, it can also be confusing and frustrating. The games are a whole other world of code words, gadgets, and gizmos galore, and talking to your significant other about them can be like trying to navigate your way out of an escape room without any instructions. Not all hope is lost though, as there are a few ways to help yourself navigate the gamer world.
1. Do some research
GiphyYou can't expect to be able to relate to your SO if you don't understand their interests, so do a little research to help yourself out. I'm not saying you have to learn every rule of every video game ever, but if your bf/gf is constantly playing Fortnite then do a quick Google search and see where it takes you. Sometimes it's just easier to watch a YouTube video about GTA instead of feeling like a dummy as your partner tries hopelessly to explain it to you.
2. Give it a try
GiphyDon't knock a game before you try it! Just because you've never played DnD before doesn't mean that it's not a fun game. Lumping all video games into the same boat and making assumptions about them is never a good idea, so make sure to give something a chance before you totally cross it off of your list. If your S.O. can watch an episode of "Friends" with you every night, you can make the effort to learn a new game. Nobody said it would be easy, but that's a relationship for you.
3. Make it a group activity
GiphyIf you don't see your partner as much because they're playing video games with their friends, then go get in on the action! Yes, it's good to have boundaries and to give your partner some space, but if you've been invited to game night before and have always declined, take this as a sign to say yes! Like the saying goes: if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. This way you'll be able to spend more time with your S.O. while getting to know their friends more. Trust me, it's a win-win situation.
4. Talk about it

Put it to the test!
