What Valentine's Day Week Should Really Be About

It’s that time of year again--when companies shove the idea of love and romance down your throat, and single individuals feel alone because of the holiday that reminds them of their lack of a relationship status. Personally, as a perpetually single individual, I have always found the holiday pointless. I never have anyone to celebrate with, or to show my love to. However, this Valentine’s Day, I focused less on the stereotypical romantic aspects of the holiday, and more on the true sentiment. The whole point of Valentine’s Day is to celebrate the love in your life, and people in your life who you love. You don’t have to be in a romantic relationship to have love, and celebrate that love. So this Valentine’s Day, I focused on the people I love and make sure they are aware of how much they mean to me. These are the people who truly deserve recognition this holiday that I highly suggest everyone reaches out and expresses their love to.

1. Your Parents.

It may sound cliché, but your parents love you more than most people in this world and deserve your love and appreciation more than anyone else. They sacrificed countless hours, weekends, and years of their lives to make you happy. It is only right to call them up this Valentine’s Day and tell them that you love them.

2. Your friends.

Your friends are the people who have been with you no matter what, they are the people you are most likely to laugh with, cry with, and share super embarrassing moments with. Unlike many romantic relationships, friends tend to last longer and see you at both your best and worst. Make sure your friends know how much you love them for putting up with you, day in and day out.

3. Your Pets.

Let’s get real, some of the most beloved people in your life (and yes, my dog counts as a person) is your pet. They love you unconditionally; all they ask of you is food, attention, and love in return. Your life would be incomplete without your pet at your side, so make sure you give them an extra special treat.

4. The people you see every day.

This could be your mailman, barista, the janitor in your building, or your next door neighbor. Regardless of who they are, they play an important role in your life, and although you may not love them personally, I’m sure you love and appreciate what they do or add to your daily life. Give them a friendly reminder of this; I’m sure they’ll welcome it.

5. Yourself.

In a world filled with hate, body shaming, and a whole bunch of other nastiness, it is easy to lose self-confidence and stop loving yourself. Take this holiday to remember that you are a beautiful, unique, and amazing individual who should always love yourself, no matter what.

Hopefully, you all enjoyed your Valentine’s Day! Continue to celebrate all week.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
