Being far away from your loved one can be tough, especially on Valentine's Day. Seeing the blossom of romance all around you as your friends discuss their Valentine's Day plans with their boyfriends and girlfriends. On the day you celebrate the day of love, you can feel alone even though you know you are not. Celebrating Valentine's Day when you're in a long distance relationship can be tough, but with these tricks and tips you'll be able to make it through.

1. Skype or FaceTime

Plan a date on Valentine's Day to talk to your special someone. This will be the closest to a real date the two of you may have for a while.

2. Send a flirty text

Spice up your relationship with a sweet text to show your other half what they really mean to you.

3. Plan a date before or after Valentine's Day

Who said you have to celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14th? Make romantic plans to go out with your significant other while the two of you are together.

4. Write a love letter

While it may be old fashioned nowadays to send love letters, it may mean the world to yours truly. So pick up the pen and start writing!

5. Send your lover a link to a song or video

Do you have a favorite song the two of you share together? Or a memorable movie? Send your bae a link to that song or video to put a smile on their face.

6. Think outside the box

Instead of sending conventional red roses or chocolates, make a joke out of your Valentine's Day. Send your significant other a coconut with a note that says, "I'm nuts about you."

7. A surprise visit

Surprise your special man or woman with a visit. Call him or her from the airport or on the drive there, so that you may spend the day with your special someone. Once you're there this list will be unneeded.

8. Meet in the middle

Meet halfway between your two places and plan a spontaneous adventure.

9. A romantic getaway

Plan to spend the weekend together in a romantic spot, where the two of you can spend some time together after the long separation.

10. An open letter

Send your loved one a group of letters for them to open up each day. On each envelope have it say "Open when..." Open when you need a hug. Open when you are feeling sad. Open when you miss me. Open when it's Valentine's Day.

11. Show them how much you care

Remember Valentine's Day is about you and your significant other. It's a celebration of your feelings for each other and a day to show and tell them how you really feel about them. On Valentine's Day remind your significant other of your love for them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
