I've been there. At the time of writing this article, I am there. You feel drained. You don't want to get out of bed. You seem to cry at everything. You imagine basking in the sunlight at a beach while you're struggling to stay awake in class. There's no doubt you need a break, but right now that seems about as likely as winning the lottery. Twice.
While you might not have the time or money to go to a beach right this instant, there are still ways you can step away from your responsibilities and get some perspective.
First thing's first, take care of yourself. Have you eaten today? Really eaten? Are you drinking enough water? Have you showered or washed your face? I don't care how much homework you have, do those things. You're not at your best when your health is suffering.
If you need a change of scenery but it's too cold to go exploring outside, try changing up your room. It can be as simple as moving some posters around or putting your rug in a different place. Or you could revisit that Pinterest board that you barely look at and try a small DIY project. Put on some uplifting music while you do so.
Another fun project could be making a blanket fort. Because blanket forts make everything better.
Don't be afraid to treat yourself. Eat your favorite snack. Read a book, watch a movie, play a game. Just be very careful if you decide to drink alcohol. Being intoxicated/hungover is not going to help.
If your heart is really set on going to that beach, you can start planning now. Work out where you want to go and how you can afford to get there. Start saving money. It might take a while but you'll get there eventually. And having a more concrete plan can make thoughts about the beach less depressingly impossible.
And please, if you're genuinely feeling hopeless, talk to a loved one or see a counselor. You are not alone. You will get through this.
