Attention women of Utah: Pack up your professional clothes, press snooze on the alarm clock, and laugh at your male counterparts while they continue to work hard and earn a living, because as of Sept. 13, you are working for free.
According to studies, the average American woman earns around 22% less than their male counterparts. Essentially, women are working for free for around four months of the year.
Utah’s statistics are slightly worse. Results gathered by Expert Market, a division of MVF global, shows that there is a 30% pay gap between men and women in Utah. Expert Market analyzed data produced by the Census Bureau, the Department of Education and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and concluded that Utah ranks as the fourth worst state for gender equality.
Louisiana is ranked the worst state for gender discrimination, followed by Wyoming, with West Virginia taking third, and Utah placing fourth.
The SEO executive of MVF, Jared Keleher, stated that the two reasons for the pay gap is the lack of female representation in government, and the lack of females in senior management positions.
Advocates for gender equality advise that the only way to bridge the gap, is dedication to equality of both men and women.
