Mary Barringer

I am currently working on a Bachelor of English and Creative Writing with a Minor in Professional Writing. I love to read and watch movies. My favorite authors include Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, Jasper Fforde - the list is far larger than I have room to include here. I love classic films. My television is tuned to Turner Classic Movies most of the time.

I lived in Dallas, TX for the 30 years. I recently moved back to my hometown (Murphysboro, IL) in Southern Illinois to help my parents. Living with my parents has made it possible for me to pursue my dream of becoming a writer, but I do miss living in the city. I hope to move back one day soon.

I worked in the IT industry for 20 years, but it has been my dream to become a professional writer. When I moved back to Southern Illinois I saw my opportunity to pursue that dream. While attending classes at SNHU I have been working as a freelance writer. I enjoy writing marketing content, creative non-fiction, poetry and short stories. More recently, I completed internship as a Content Writer for the Borgen Project.

I have always loved reading.I believe that my love affair with writing began there. I believe that writing an essay, short story or poem is much like writing music – just as each note must be followed by the right note to create a melody, so each word must be followed by the right word to create an essay or poem. The words must sound right in my ear or I change them.
