It's no joke or shocker that I love USC. It has been my dream school since I was incredibly young and was easily one of the best days of my life so far when I got my acceptance letter.
Despite being a music industry major, I am constantly awed by all of the different academic fields here. Amazingly, one professional school here that I have never really come into contact with is the Viterbi School of Engineering. I mean, come on, engineering is pretty much like rocket science (quite literally) to a music business and pre-law student.
Recently I was introduced to one of the school's most innovative programs yet: the Viterbi Startup Garage. This program funds, supports and educates young entrepreneurs in their ventures in order to encourage success in the business sphere. One company that has come out of this is called UltraPress, a high-quality custom design apparel company that was started by a USC Marshall School of Business grad, Jason Wei.
This startup began in a small USC apartment with just a screen-printing machine and a dream. The company, then known as Taggler, was expanded through the Viterbi Startup Garage and eventually expanded to a location in the Little Tokyo district in Downtown Los Angeles.
Focusing on high-quality apparel designs, UltraPress now serves as one of the lowest priced with fastest turnaround times on the internet. The company has come to serve customers all across the U.S. with its custom apparel designs.
I found out about this company through my friend who now works on the marketing and content for the company. Probably one of the most endearing parts of the company’s business model is that it is giving back the success that it developed through USC to current students.
I have been a witness to the commitment of UltraPress, which have provided shirts and other apparel for different events and fraternities I have been a part of.
USC is so important to me, but even more important is its ability to give the most to its students. Through programs like the Viterbi Startup Garage, USC is paving the way towards an incredibly progressive future in the business sphere. Company’s like UltraPress show how, with the right amount of support and creative encouragement, students can take their ideas and innovations and relatively change the world.
Companies like UltraPress are fostering the creativity and business know-how in young people of all majors. The potential to change the face of the innovative business industry is truly in the hands of USC students as the university continues to implement programs, like the Viterbi Startup Garage, to send forth savvy students into the business realm.
