Emerging electronica artist, Ultraloner, certainly harks back to a retro realm. Yet his savvy production definitely nods to the sound of today’s current synth-pop wave, but with his own unique spin on it. On “American Life," the Atlanta-based musician delivers a solid, sleek electro-pop track with an intoxicatingly melodic sound and lyrical theme relevant for today’s turbulent political times.
Starting off with a very throwback sound that gives props to 80s-era New Order, “American Life” beams melodic optimism and electro-pop goodness. Addressing today’s tumultuous new era of American identity, Ultraloner presents heartfelt lyrics as universal as they are personal. “I feel the weight of the world...then I turn on my heart and get back to the grind of life ” belts out Ultraloner in an emo-alt-rock fasetto perfectly suiting his Britpop-influenced sound. The song manages to touch subtly on timely themes without being too preachy. It’s a clever balancing act indeed successfully accomplished.
Considering his thought-provoking commentary and everything going in the new politics of today, Americans should - as Ultraloner suggests - be asking too “Is this my American life?”
