You Are Not Stagnating, You Are Up-Leveling

The jittery feeling you are hiding from society, the anticipation of something great, something new to motivate you forward.

Have you ever felt like you were falling into this odd slump for no reason at all? Not the kind of overwhelming slump that disallows you from leaving your bed, but rather feeling just slightly less than or slower than usual without any reason at all.

Maybe you're feeling this right now and want to attribute it to the April showers that, until recently, flooded our flower beds and streets. Perhaps you feel this at random points throughout the year and can honestly say the change in weather has nothing to do with it.

Or, maybe its something even greater than that.

We live in a society that is incredibly fast-paced. No time for breaks or naps, we continue to work hard at whatever task stands in front of us without any inclination of rest sometime soon. And so when life seems to slow down, fewer tasks are required of us or another season comes to a close, we find ourselves standing there feeling dull.

Empty.

As if we rely on what is slowly killing us to keep us alive.

But we are not empty shells, casually meandering throughout the day. We are living, breathing beings that shed light wherever we walk. Beings with opportunity, ability and an inner drive to help us overcome any obstacle that may stand in our way.

And this "slump" that leaves us feeling less than, left out and useless is only temporary. Because you are not withering.

You are up-leveling.

That's right, you read that correctly. The numb yet jittery feeling you are hiding from society, the anticipation of something great, something new to motivate you forward is not going to be the death of you. Because while exhausting and slightly demotivating, these are the very emotions you will need to begin the next portion of your journey through this incredible life.

But in order to feel the full effects of this, you have to accept it.

You have to level up your mind.

I know this may be hard for some of you, especially considering we as human beings are genetically trained to observe all that occurs in our lives as a threat instead of opportunity.

How can I be up-leveling when I lack all motivation to complete such simple daily assignments?

By changing your perspective.

This dull, bored feeling you are experiencing is a sign that you want more out of your life. More joy, more money, more opportunity, more time. More anything, and you are anxious to find a way to make these hopes reality.

But do not fret. You will.

Maybe not today, or next week. But if you continue to search for whatever it is that you seek with open eyes and a non-judgemental heart, you will find it. And you will realize that the dreaded waiting place that once held you still no longer controls you. Because it never could.

So embrace the uncertainty. Walk down the same path that you take every day, but this time, do so with open eyes and ears. With an open heart, and soon, you will begin to see the opportunity standing in front of you to capture your attention once again.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
