We Need To Be Enjoying Nature More Than Our Cell Phones

Go out on more adventures in the great outdoors!

Imagine that you're in Florida and you are driving through the Ocala National Forest. Suddenly, you lose phone signal, but you know from directions given that you are going to make it to the destination. You get to your destination and you grab your picnic gear and head over to a shaded area with a picnic table. You check your phone and you don't see any messages or social media notifications. Do you feel relieved? happy? anxious? sad? If you are any of these emotions, then you need to take some time away from your cell phone while out in nature.

I understand if one wants to take pictures of areas in nature that you want to remember, but staying in nature shouldn't consist of you being on social media or texting friends the whole time. One should take that time to be alone and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you. Depending on the area, I would look up different species of animals and plants that are a possibility to be seen on the trail. I would also consider the time of year as well because you don't want to get ticks on you but it is more reason to go swimming in the freshwater springs since the trials can be terribly hot during the summer anywhere.

Honestly, when you have a natural freshwater spring in front of you with a bathing suit on that shows that you need to be enjoying yourself. If the cool water doesn't inspire you to jump in on a hot Florida summer's day, then it may be you having a problem. Going to a freshwater spring all year round, in Florida, is a treat because it constantly stays the same temperature all year round. All springs, in Florida, tend to be in a rural area, but it's worth driving past all of the farms. Depending on the national park, going to a national park will always be cheaper than a Theme Park. Packing a picnic will save money on food than eating theme park food. If you bring swimming masks, one can experience fish in the freshwater spring.

Going on adventures and unplugging can be a relaxing experience. One does not need to be on social media all of the time or working from your phone all of the time. We all need time to decompress and enjoy life. Going to places that have no cell phone service can be the best thing for your mental health at the moment. If you don't want to go alone then go with friends and family that you, maybe, haven't seen in a long time. Pack a picnic, a bathing suit, a change of clothes, etc and get out of home and explore the area around you. If you don't have water to swim in, explore the trials. Make sure you know what to expect and tips on how to dress. Go on and have a merry adventure.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
