Going to school at Murray State has been one of the greatest decisions I've ever made. I've made some pretty awesome friends, joined a few rockin' organizations, and have had the time of my life here in my Old Kentucky Home.
When I first moved to Kentucky, I noticed a different kind of vibe in Murray. I started to notice that southern hospitality was a real thing and that churches sat on every corner of town. With Land Between the Lakes nearby, I fell in love with Murray, Kentucky, shortly after move in. Throughout the academics, sports, and all of the organizations represented by Murray State, this is a university worth recognition and there's no doubt about that. But I think Murray has a few more things to offer that not many people know about, and I'm about to spill the beans.
1. The Underground Tunnel
I first found out about the underground tunnel back in May and I had never been more surprised that I hadn't heard about it sooner. I personally haven't been in the tunnels yet, but it's something that will have a spot on my bucket list. I've been told that it ends near Walmart and I'm not exactly sure where it starts, but I know it's somewhere around the Ag Systems Tech building.
2. Murray McDonald's doesn't salt their fries after dark
Although this is just a personal judgement and assumption, I seriously believe it's a real thing. Also, I apologize in advance because we both know you'll forever notice that now.
3. Murray is the #1 friendliest small town in America
In 2012, USA Today released that Murray was ranked the number one friendliest town in America. You can go check out the article here!
4. The Arboretum
Did you know there's a walking path back behind the gardens? It features "the hill," which is how it's known to college students. It's all Murray State property and if you ask me, it's the most beautiful part of Murray.
5. There's 2 Belew's Restaurants
The off-the-lake burger joint has been open since the 60s and it's the place to be during summertime. But if you're not just coming off the lake, there's a diner off of 94 East called Duncan's Market and Grill. It's the original owners of Belew's before they sold it a few years back. With the same great milkshakes, cheeseburgers, and crinkle-cut fries, Duncan's is the place to go when you're in need of something to eat.
